Dear Friends,
Most of you are not aware that in addition to my love of music and the piano, I have an even greater passion: it is for the natural world in which we live, especially our wildlife. The piano's association with ivory was, until just a few decades ago, a deep one, but fortunately, this is no longer the case - we no longer exploit tusks for our pianos. Unfortunately, the ivory trade has exploded in other parts of the world.
The elephant is a majestic, intelligent animal with a highly developed family structure, and each family member has a unique personality - similar to what we see in humans. We have recently discovered that elephants have highly developed senses and can communicate over great distances in ways we could not have previously imagined. However, an elephant is killed every 15 minutes, and they are on a rapid path to extinction. Only last month, a two ton cache of seized ivory was burned in Kenya!
As I feel we need to try to make a difference, Faust Harrison Pianos has teamed up with the prestigious Six Summit Gallery in Ivorytown, CT., the town that was the former home of all ivory processing in this country. Together, we will be presenting a wonderful exhibit of paintings and sculptures by many important artists in two of our showrooms - in Manhattan and in Fairfield, CT. - and proceeds from sales of the artwork will be donated to the African Wildlife Foundation to help preserve these great elephants.
On June 14th from 2-5 PM we will open the doors to our Fairfield showroom for the opening of the art exhibit at that location. The opening date for the Manhattan will be announced on our events page, and the exhibits will be on display until the end of August. If you can't make it to one of the openings, please come when you can during regular showroom hours. We hope to see you there!
