Call to Action

Dear Lovejoy Community:

We are nearing the end of the special session and it is time to give 100% of our attention to the Texas Senate. While there is still an ASATR funding bill pending in the House, it is time to focus on the Senate. HB 21 passed the House and will be heard on Friday in the Senate Education Committee. The Senate has already issued a press release criticizing the House of Representatives for their investment in public education. HB 21 does provide Lovejoy ISD some very significant relief: ~80% of the funds we are scheduled to lose. If you are so inclined, now would be an appropriate time to voice your support of HB 21 to our senators and state-wide elected officials.

I am emphasizing the following to our elected officials:
  • Please support HB 21, as received from the house, which adds $1.8 billion back into public education and reverses the trend of the undue burden on local property taxes to fund our schools
  • Returns the majority of the ASATR funds the legislature has taken away
  • Reduces the amount of recapture (Robin Hood) Lovejoy ISD is sending back to the State of Texas
  • Increases funding for our Dyslexia program
  • Increases our per student funding by $200 per student to help us keep up with the cost of inflation
