The Lovejoy community came together last week to raise over $4,000 for the flood victims in Louisiana. Additionally, hundreds of books were donated to help rebuild the Denham Springs Library. Thank you to everyone who contributed. A special thank you to Lisa Hopkinson, Jennifer Waldrop, and Brie Smith for coordinating the effort to "Spread Lovejoy Across State Lines."
Emily Dillon, a 4th grade student at Lovejoy Elementary school was recently featured in the Allen American. Emily held a bake sale and raised $900 to donate to flood victims in Baton Rouge.

A Message from the
Dear Lovejoy Community:
Today is North Texas Giving Day (NTXGD). NTXGD is typically a day in which charitable organizations in our area receive their greatest quantity of donations. The Foundation for Lovejoy Schools (FLS) is one of the charitable organizations participating in NTXGD, and directly impacts the experience of students in Lovejoy. The FLS supports teacher grant requests which are vetted by the teachers each year through our Invest in Excellence committees.
Invest in Excellence was a process developed in partnership with our Foundation for Lovejoy Schools nine years ago to ensure your generous donations are impacting our district programs. Invest in Excellence is a teacher-driven process which facilitates the strong partnership between the Foundation and the District.
By the end of January, all teachers have the opportunity to submit grant request forms describing the items they would like to have funded to enhance the learning experiences of the students. These grant requests are reviewed by the Invest in Excellence Committee comprised of a few teachers from each campus. The Invest in Excellence Committee prioritizes the grant requests based on the impact of the proposal on the experiences of our students and/or our community.
Based on the available funds raised from both the Annual Appeal and Denim & Diamonds, the Foundation grant committee and the Foundation Board determine which prioritized grant submissions can be funded. Fortunately, a large number of the prioritized grant submissions are funded because of the tremendous generosity of the Lovejoy community. Last May, the FLS provided $435,000 to support teacher grants, which are being implemented this school year.
On North Texas Giving Day and during this time of the Annual Appeal campaign, please know your donation is being invested in the enhancements requested and prioritized by our teachers through the Invest in Excellence process.
To see how the generous donations to the FLS have directly enhanced learning in Lovejoy,
We hope you love where you have chosen for your child to learn. If you have feedback to help us improve, please do not hesitate to contact me on my cell at 214.385.1967.

Senior Project Judge
The Senior Project is an exciting part of every Lovejoy High School senior's experience as they explore topics of their choice and share what they learn with members of the community. There are different components of the project including creating a proposal, writing an annotated bibliography, and completing an activity. As the culminating event of their Senior Project, students give an 8 to 10-minute presentation about their experience to a panel of adult volunteer judges. These judges score students on their presentation skills, and give them feedback designed to help them in their future pursuits.
You are invited to share in this experience as a Senior Project Judge. Presentations will take place this year at Lovejoy High School on November 15th, December 7th, January 17th, and February 16th. Presentations will begin at 5:30 PM, and should conclude by 9:00 PM. Dinner will be provided each evening.
There are only four opportunities to serve as a Senior Project judge this year. As a result, additional judges will be needed each evening.
As always, please feel free to contact me with questions or concerns.
