"Switch: How to Change Things When Change is Hard" - Chip & Dan Heath

Switch addresses motivating employees, family members, and ourselves in their analysis of why we too often fear change. Change is not inherently frightening, but our ability to alter our habits can be complicated by the disjunction between our rational and irrational minds: the self that wants to be swimsuit-season ready and the self that acquiesces to another slice of cake anyway. Through lively examples, the Heaths speak energetically and encouragingly on how to modify our behaviors and businesses.

"The Stress-Proof Brain" - Melanie Greenberg, PhD

The Stress-Proof Brain offers powerful, comprehensive tools based in mindfulness, neuroscience, and positive psychology to help you put a stop to unhealthy responses to stress-such as avoidance, tunnel vision, negative thinking, self-criticism, fixed mindset, and fear. Instead, you'll discover unique exercises that provide a recipe for resilience, empowering you to master your emotional responses, overcome negative thinking, and create a more tolerant, stress-proof brain.

Welcome back!

We hope you had a mindful and relaxing summer. Hopefully, you were able to take some much needed time for yourself in which to practice self-care after the busy work year.

As we return to a new semester, we remind you that practicing mindful awareness - the practice of being present in the moment- can be a wonderfully supportive way to address any stress or anxiety you may not realize you are carrying or accumulating.

Employee Assistance is here to support you with your stress management, and can provide guidance to you and your dependents through short-term counseling, assessment, referrals, and workshops. Please call 510-643-7754 to set up an in-person or phone appointment.

Sincerely,
