This month's feature is easy tips to try at home to help kids make healthy choices 'one bite a time!' For many of us, good intentions for New Year's resolutions have been difficult to keep up with. We have easy practical solutions for making healthy changes with your children, that you can try any day!
 

 

February is coming soon and we have fun new seasonal nutrition activity printables, Valentine's Day cards for kids to share with family, friends and classmates. Plus, a new calendar for the month with daily healthy tips for the whole family, and heart healthy worksheets for kids for American Heart Month.   

 

Healthy Choices One Bite at a Time 

Rather than focusing on yearly resolutions, another effective way is to make smaller healthier changes as part of your family's routine. You can try doing one new simple healthy choice together each day or pick a new one to try for a week.

 

You may be surprised to learn that even the simplest of changes can make a difference in your long term health and your child's health.

 

There are lots of ways to promote healthy choices. Find what works best for you and your family and make a commitment to do it 'one bite at time'.  And remember to try to keep it positive and fun!

Here are some healthy ideas to get started:  

Use whole or 2% milk use fat-free milk

Drink soda                  drink 100% juice, or water

Eat dessert                  eat fruit for dessert

Have second helpings   put food away after serving 

Eat big portions           eat off a smaller plate

White bread/pasta       go for a variety of whole-graind 

Use butter                   try spices, or olive or flax oil 

Eat fast foods              ✰ pack healthy sandwiches  

                                        and fruits & vegetables  

Eat red meat               try meatless protein meals or fish 

Snack on junk food    keep fruits and veggies on hand     Skip breakfast            plan and prepare the night before   Fry your food             bake, broil, grill, or roast your food
