MSPCC Kids Visit Canobie Lake Park with Newest Celtic

Thirty children from MSPCC's therapeutic summer program, Kid's Day, joined the Boston Celtics' first round draft pick, Kelly Olynyk, at Canobie Lake Park this month.

The kids got celebrity treatment from the start of the day, when their bus was provided with a police escort to the park. They spent the rest of the day splashing through water rides with Kelly, taking in a private Justin Bieber tribute show, and enjoying a buffet lunch of park specialties including pizza and ice cream.

Thanks to the Boston Celtics Shamrock Foundation, Canobie Lake Park, and Kelly for making the kids feel like stars for the day!

The Kid's Day Program, located in Jamaica Plain, provides educational and mental health support for children between the ages of 5 and 12 during the summer and after school.

Nearly 50 parents were recognized at a graduation ceremony in Holyoke this

month after completing parenting programs through MSPCC.

The programs, geared mainly toward pregnant and parenting teens, provide guidance, education and a support system through the joys and challenges of parenthood.

"As a teenager, finding out I was pregnant was a shock," said graduate Kiari Martinez. "Things were rough at first, but throughout my pregnancy my home visitor from MSPCC taught me about how the baby was growing, what to expect and how to take care of myself."

"This program has helped me a lot and has taught me that I'm not the only girl going through this. I am very happy to be a mother and I am fortunate to have MSPCC and my family to support me."
