July 2017

As we close out the fiscal year, I took a moment to reflect on our accomplishments and how we will continue to build on our successes.

First and foremost, we have worked to ensure property tax collections remained consistent and on forecast.  This year was no exception, as we collected 96.7% of all taxes due. These results are a testament to taxpayers like you, the improvement of our economy, and the work of the dedicated staff at the Trustee's Office.

I could not be prouder of our community initiatives and the impact we are making across Shelby County. Over the last 12 months, more than 1,600 students have been impacted by the On My Own program and hundreds more will be introduced to it this summer through the Memphis Ambassadors Program.

We just kicked off the Young Wall Street Traders investing boot camp for high school students. In three weeks time, 12 students will have hands on experience in stock analysis and earn a Bloomberg Certification.

Bank On Memphis has been recognized nationally for its innovative mobile app and the awareness it is generating in the community about financial education and access to traditional banking. Receiving a $10,000 grant from the Cities for Financial Empowerment Fund was an indicator that we are on the right track and making a difference. As I approach my final year as Trustee, my goal is to take the culmination of all we have built to sustain a legacy of service to taxpayers. Thank you for the privilege.
