Docent spotlight: Paul McKeag

Paul McKeag began giving tours at the Mansion in 2009, just before it was closed for renovation. Once it reopened he continued volunteering, primarily assisting during large community events and school group tours. Paul enjoys working with the school groups because he loves children. "They are so excited, full of life and have so many great questions," Paul said.

Paul has two favorite rooms at the Mansion, the solarium and the west bedroom. "Even though it's very formal and elegant, the solarium is peaceful and comfortable. And I love the windows in the west bedroom and the patio with beautiful views of downtown Denver and the mountains."

Paul has been retired for eight years and has kept very busy. Paul started a company that builds houses throughout South America. He travels to Ecuador multiple times a year for business and to enjoy his home on the beach. Prior to retirement, Paul did contract work for Homeland Security as a trainer for TSA.

When he's not at the Mansion or traveling to Ecuador, Paul loves to read and learn new things. He is an active member of the Highlands Ranch Historical Society, and enjoys traveling throughout the United States. He has been to every state except Alaska.

The Mansion is full of history

Highlands Ranch was once the headquarters of the Arapahoe Hunt Club. Club members would ride horses cross-country behind an eager group of foxhounds who pursued coyote as opposed to the English tradition of foxes. The club was located in Highlands Ranch from 1929-1987.

The Arapahoe Hunt Club is still in existence today. To learn more about its history, click here.
