Freedom Riders - In Their Own Words
From May 4 through the fall of 1961, over 400 Freedom Riders put their bodies, and potentially their lives, on the line, challenging racial segregation in interstate transportation. Freedom Riders Dion Diamond, Reginald Green, and Joan Browning will share their stories and insights at First African Baptist Church this Sunday, February 7, at 1:30 pm. The program will include a performance by UA's Afro American Gospel Choir. Transportation for students from the UA campus will be provided by the Black Student Union and University Programs.

African-American Foodways: At the Heart of Southern Cooking
|
January 20 - February 3
9:00 am - 5:00 pm
2nd Floor Lobby W. S. Hoole Special Collections Library
W. S. Hoole Special Collections Library is hosting an exhibit featuring our African-American cookbook collections, shedding light on an important but often critically unexplored facet of American foodways, one integral to our Southern food culture.
Comprising some 500 volumes, the David Walker Lupton Collection documents everything from the industry’s origin in the 1800s to the celebrity cookbook craze of the 2000s. It is especially strong in cookbooks that look back to Africa, celebrate the concept of “soul food,” or originate within local community groups.
