Proposed plan outlines role co-ops can play reducing poverty
Co-operatives have a proven ability to distribute income equitably and keep money in local economies, are democratically controlled and are excellent community-building tools. It's for these reasons co-ops are a major part of a proposed plan to reduce poverty that will be put before Calgary city council next week.
Calgary is one of Canada's most prosperous cities, yet there's a challenge for many people who wish to access important resources that impact personal prosperity, such as access to affordable child care, housing, transportation and food.
