Award Winning Author Julius J.E. Thompson Interviews National Known Writer, Editor and Blogger Cheryl Holloway!
Julius J.E. Thompson Question/Answer Interview!

Julius, I would like to thank you for having me in your newsletter
JET: Can you tell us a little about yourself?
Cheryl: First and foremost, I am a writer and I firmly believe, ‘writers write.’ I have been writing for many years, now. My writing varies from articles, informational pieces, poetry, books, short stories and magazine articles. You name it and I can write it. I have put a great deal of time in learning my craft over the years. As a result, I am exceedingly passionate about writing. I write in several genres, but mostly romance. I have been told that I am an avid reader, dedicated writer and amazing blogger, who is passionate about writing.

JET : As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
Cheryl: As a child, I wanted to be a teacher and a writer. I am proud to say that I accomplished it and have been both in my long career.

JET: What inspired you to become a writer, editor and blogger?
Cheryl: I think I was born a writer, because I’ve been writing since I was a small child.  I have always wanted to write stories. I began reading books when I was three years old and my mother bought me Golden Books once a week. I wanted more books, so I began writing my own little stories to entertain myself and eventually, my brother. Later in my career, I became an editor and enjoyed helping other writers perfect their work. Then, it all lead to my blog, which is my passion for paying it forward!

JET : When did you first consider your profession?:
Cheryl: When I was in college, I decided that I would not take a job unless it involved some form of writing. So, that is how I became an editor through training and a desire to learn more about my craft. I had an internet radio talk show, which later evolved into my blog.
JET : Do you work at your craft full-time?:
Cheryl : Yes, I do. I write all day, every day—mostly I am writing my books and my blog. I just write everyday with no particular word count. I usually write 4+ hours (more like 8+ hours) every single day. You do what you love. ☺

JET. Do you write from imagination, personal experience, or a mixture?
Cheryl:  A mixture. I generally take a personal experience—mine or a friend’s—and elaborate with imagination to create an entertaining fictional story.

JET . Do you have a current ‘work in progress’? Can you tell us anything about it?
Cheryl: Yes, I have several projects in the making. I’m currently working on a two-book series. I am writing the story from a male point of view, something new for me. It is entitled Love Makes the Ride Worthwhile (The Love Struggle Series Book 1). The World War II love story is about a woman my father met while serving in the Navy. Then, I am collaborating with two of my writer friends, Georgette Littlejohn and Winona Addison. So, I will be busy writing for some time, especially with several unfinished books. LOL

JET: The theme of your blog is “paying it forward” to give other writers a venue for getting known. Did you have such help when you were starting out? When your first book came out, how did it become well known?
Cheryl: No, in the beginning I did not have a way to get the word out about my book, A Forgotten Negro League Star: A Personal Look at Al Burrows, which was published in Jan 2004, but it is currently out-of-print. So, in 2005, I created Just About Books Internet Radio Talk Show. I gave authors a one-hour interview to discuss their book. The Negro League book wasn’t my first book; however, I needed to promote it locally and nationally, so I decided that a radio show would help me get the word out for myself and other authors. The book became well known by my writing press releases, local and national newspaper articles, and of course, word of mouth. Al Burrows was alive during that time and he promoted the book, as well. I have continued to pay it forward since 2013, by creating my blog, www.CherylHolloway.net/blog . My blog will celebrate its Fifth Anniversary this year. Please visit my blog and subscribe, so you won’t miss great books and wonderful authors.
JET : What advice would you give to unpublished authors?
Cheryl : I have learned one important point about writing and that is writers write…on a regular and continual basis. If you continue to write, eventually you will publish your work. If not, email me for inspiration.
