Trail of Hope: The Power of Native American Women
October 7-9, 2011 

SEJANAM logoSEJANAM, the Southeastern Jurisdictional Association for Native American Ministries, and Lake Junaluska will be hosting the second Native American Women's Gathering and Conference. "The Trail of Hope: The Power of Native American Women" will focus on capacity building, sharing strategies, and tapping into the leadership capabilities of Native American Women to strengthen their communities and churches. Leadership includes Cynthia Kent, the past Executive Secretary for Indigenous and Native American Ministries for the General Board of Global Ministries; Ragghi Rain Calentine, a nationally known storyteller and writer; Rev. During this Alban at Lake Junaluska event, participants will learn to see the ancient values and traditions of the church through the lens of "open source" commitment to inclusion and diversity, as well as learn the new processes, practices and postures that will allow persons to honor and vitalize traditions in the 21st century. Rabbi Mordechai Liebling, Director of the Social Justice Organizing Program at Reconstructionist Rabbinical College; Dr. Ellen Marshall -Professor of Ethics, Candler School of Theology; and Dr. Ebrahim Moosa - Professor of Religion and Islamic Studies, Duke University will present an Interfaith Panel entitled:"Our Sacred Texts and Traditions Speak to Us in Regard to Peace Justice and Economics." The 2011 Lake Junaluska Peace Conference, "Poverty Abundance, and Peace: Seeking Economic Justice for All God's Children," features Senator George McGovern, Rev. Zehr to lecture on Restorative Justice

Professor Howard Zehr, a founder of the Restorative Justice Movement, will explore the concept of restorative justice during the Chautauqua Lecture Series at Lake Junaluska.  Zehr will give a free public lecture on "The Promise and Challenge of Restorative Justice" at 7:00 pm on Friday, September 30 at Shackford Hall, Lake Junaluska. On Saturday, October 1, Professor Zehr will lead in-depth lectures and workshops. READ MORE

Walking the Faith: Singing Songs of Faith, Hope and Love  

Celebrate the 25th Silver Anniversary of Choir Music Weekend with local choir singers, directors, and accompanists in 2011! From the time of its inception  in 1986 through the present, the focus of Choir Music Weekend (CMW) at Lake Junaluska has been on encouraging the small to medium sized choir.  At the final worship service on Sunday morning, the eight anthems learned during the mass rehearsals will be sung together, illustrating the them of the 2011 weekend: Caring for Creation.  READ MORE
