ENTER THE 2015 SHORT STORY CONTEST!!

Hello: Two years ago we had a novel contest, and it was great fun. And before that we did a local poetry anthology. We love short stories, and this is a chance for everyone, young and old, to sit down and polish up a piece of work, or start a new one. We can't wait to see what we get!

The Rules: Entries must be an original work of short fiction, no more than 5000 words, and must be previously unpublished. All entries must be emailed to [email protected] by the end of the day on Monday, May 25th. The works will be judged by the owners of RiverRun Bookstore, and winners will be announced on June 15th.

The contest will have two categories: Authors 17 years old and younger, and authors 18 years old an over. RiverRun will award gift certificates and other prizes to the first, second, and third place winners in each category. The winners will also be asked to read from their work at a special event at the bookstore on Sunday, June 28th.

If we receive more than 60 entries, RiverRun will publish a collection of chosen stories through its publishing business, Piscataqua Press. Questions about the contest can be addressed to Tom Holbrook at [email protected]

Flash Typewriter Poetry Contest on April 30th.

Okay, so let's finish National Poetry Month with some fun. Introducing the Flash Tyepwriter Poetry Contest. Each contestant will be given a manual typewriter, three sheets of paper, and a pencil. Then we will draw a random topic. Contestants have 30 minutes to write a poem on the topic, TYPE IT OUT, and turn it in. The completed poems will be shuffled and handed back out to the poets randoml. The poets will then read the poem they were given. After the reading, each poet will vote for their favorite poem (exluding their own). There will be wine! There will be prizes for best poem, best reading, and audience award.

The event will be limited to FIFTEEN PARTICIPANTS. To register email Tom at [email protected]
