Elul Enlightenment begins on August 12th - a series of short reflections, stories, and commentaries by Adat Shalom members, all focused on preparing for the Days of Awe. As we contemplate the year that is ending, we recall our struggles - with others, with situations, and perhaps most of all with ourselves. As we look ahead to a new year, we hope for the blessing of a better year, a better world, a better self.
Coming Up
Saturday, August 18th - Shabbat services & Bar Mitzvah of Henry Dirckx at 9:30 AM

Sunday, August 19th - Makom Elul Exploration: Psalm 27 and Journaling at 10:30 AM in the Sanctuary
Facilitated by Kit Turen and Martha Hare

During the month of Elul it is a tradition to read Psalm 27 each day.  In this session we will read and reflect upon Psalm 27 in a slow, personal and contemplative process that helps us be in relationship with the psalm. Participants will be able to express their connection to the psalm through writing, poetry, drawing, or movement. They will have an opportunity to deepen their connection through sharing in small groups. This process also can be used for personal contemplation and prayer.
Gan Zikaron (Garden of Remembrance) plots going up October 1, 2018
Adat Shalom owns a limited number of plots at Gan Zikaron (Garden of Remembrance), the Jewish Community of Washington's shared burial grounds in Clarksburg. After many years, the costs are rising. Currently, our plots are $2,000 each. Starting October 1, 2018, our prices will rise to $2,400 each. If you or your immediate family are considering buying plots, please contact Marla Cohen for further information.
