On Bended Knees at your Library
Paducah, KY
On Bended Knees: The Night Rider Story
by Kentucky Supreme Court Justice and author, Bill Cunningham will be the presentation during "Evenings Upstairs" at the McCracken County Public Library on Thursday, September 24 at 7 p.m.
While some may have a different idea of exactly who the night riders were, Cunningham will tell the true story of an underground movement among the tobacco growers of Kentucky and Tennessee between the years of 1904 and 1909. In reality, this was an organized rebellion against James B Duke and his tobacco dynasty in North Carolina. As the prices paid for the tobacco crops fell, Duke and his powerful group became the target of area farmers who felt they were being cheated by the American Tobacco Association.
Cunningham, a native of Lyon County, graduated from Murray State University and then received his Juris Doctor in 1969 from the University of Kentucky Law School. He served 15 years as a Circuit Court Judge. Cunningham was voted the Outstanding Commonwealth Attorney of Kentucky by his peers. He is also a veteran and the published author of six books including The Castle: The Story of a Kentucky Prison.
