(October 14, 2016) A decade after the launch of the Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), Amazon Web Service (AWS) is still the leader in Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) cloud computing. However, ten years into a market, companies are expecting more than cheap infrastructure.  Cloud conversations have shifted to business agility and advanced services. With cloud computing emerging as a fundamental component of next generation IT architectures, Microsoft, Google, and IBM battle to topple AWS from its throne...

(October 4, 2016) Despite the current hype, most organizations have been on a digital transformation journey for some time. Typically, organizations only had to deal with one wave of technology evolution at a time. For example, in the 1980s we moved to the PC, in the 1990's it was the move to e-commerce and the dot com era. Today, operations and IT professionals are dealing with four simultaneous technology shifts that include cloud computing, big data processing, enterprise mobility and Internet of Things (IoT). While each of these technologies is at a different phase of its evolution, all four have reached a level of maturity where they can be used today. Organizations are now faced with the challenge of upgrading to these solutions and combining them in new ways to deliver business value...

(October 15, 2016) Companies have been digitizing the business for decades. So it begs the question, what's different about digital transformation today? During 2016, Lopez Research has spoken to many enterprise clients about their digital transformation efforts. In this discussions, I've noticed several common themes...

(October 7, 2016) In every area of technology, people are discussing machine learning and deep learning, especially for the Internet of Thing (IoT) market. This week's announcements from Google and Salesforce also focused heavily how machine learning and artificial intelligence will be used to improve how we live, work and play. It's clear that machine learning will become part of new products and leading SaaS offerings...

(October 27, 2016) The enterprise mobility software vendor space has been around for more than a decade, but new start-ups continue to enter the market with ambitions to address unsolved problems and challenges.  In this interview recorded this week at the Enterprise Transformation Exchange in West Palm Beach, Florida, I ask PowWow Mobile CEO Kia Behnia, why an enterprise mobility start-up now?..

(September 28, 2016) Digital Transformation is the process of transforming a business from one state to another - from a state where businesses operate in Human time, to a state that operates in Digital time and finally to Future time.  Businesses today must digitally transform in order to compete in all three of these time continuums simultaneously...

(September 30, 2016) Digital transformation initiatives both increase revenue and decrease expenses according to our upcoming study titled Work AHEAD 2016 by Cognizant's Center for the Future of Work. For this study we surveyed over 2,000 executives across 18 countries. The expected net business impact over the next 3 years of rapid digital transformation, i.e. hyper-transformation, is an increase in revenue of 11.4% (Revenue = 10.3%, Costs = -1.3%) amongst the companies in our study. These numbers represent the difference between success and failure in many industries...

(October 17, 2016) Digital Transformation is the process of transforming a business from one state to another - from a state where businesses operate in Human time, to a state that operates in Digital time and finally to Future time.  Businesses today must digitally transform in order to compete in all three of these time continuums simultaneously...

(October 18, 2016) The Internet of Things (IoT) will radically change our world in the coming years. Estimates suggest that in the next 4-5 years, 30 billion to 50 billion "things" will be deployed. These devices will range from relatively simple sensors (e.g., temperature, pressure, rain) to complex data collectors (e.g., health monitors, shipping/transportation monitors, chemical process monitors, environmental stations)...

(October 31, 2016)The recent distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) IoT attack against DNS is a wake up call to how fragile the Internet can be.
The IoT attack against Domain Name Servers from a botnet of thousands of devices means it's way past time to take IoT security seriously. The bad actors around the world who previously used PCs, servers and smartphones to carry out attacks have now set their sights on the growing tidal wave of IoT devices. It's time for consumers and enterprises to protect themselves and others by locking down their devices, gateways and platforms. While staying secure is a never-ending journey, here's a list of twelve actions you can take to get started...
