Our hearts go out to those affected by the violence and racial tension in Charlottesville. It is vital to confront hate in our communities. We recognize and applaud the organizations, institutions, and individuals who are committed to making North Coast communities safe and inclusive places.

We stand in solidarity with our partners at True North Organizing Network in denouncing racist rhetoric and violence.

HSU & Arcata Community Collaboration on Racism & Safety

Representatives from across sectors in the Arcata community came together on July 12 in a strategy session to address issues of racial equity and public safety in Arcata.

A quote from our own Ron White on his experience: For representatives from HSU, business and the City to think together and lay out plans to create an integrated community where everyone fully participates and has a sense of belonging, is truly inspiring. As a Black man living here, it gave me hope.
