CANINE PROMENADE SUNDAY
OCTOBER 22, 2017

The Canine Promenade is a 1/2 mile Halloween costume parade around the Esplanade to benefit the Park, highlight the Esplanade as a resource for dog owners and to raise awareness about Park improvements. In the spirit of the season, we encourage you to dress up your dogs (and yourselves) in costume (costumes are not required).

There will be a grand prize for Best Costume and Best Duet.  Gift bags and dog treats for all registrants will be provided by our event co-host,  Pawsh Dog Boutique.

A MAGICAL EVENING IN THE PARK

Saturday, September 23rd was a beautiful evening filled with friends and neighbors who joined together to support the Esplanade at the annual Moondance Gala. This year, 450  guests joined us, raising more than $980,000  to maintain and improve the Esplanade.  THANK YOU!

You can find the photos from the event photobooth  here  and other photos from the event on our Facebook page

DIRECTIONAL SIGNAGE COMING  TO
THE ESPLANADE
The Esplanade's current signage is widely varied in design and does not make it easy for visitors to enjoy all that the Park has to offer.

The Esplanade Association is working with Halvorson Design to create a series of signs which will provide clear and consistent directional information, have a uniform look, and be placed at key areas throughout the Park. Sign installation is expected to begin in November 2017.  For a sneak peak of our new map, click here .

Funding for this project is provided by the
George B. Henderson Foundation and the
 Lynch Foundation
HORTICULTURE HAPPENINGS
This summer, our Horticulture team was thrilled to see the return of four species of native plants to the Park: Button Bush (Cephalanthus occidentalis), Rose Mallow (Hibiscus lasiocarpos)Milkweed (Asclepias syriaca) and Elderberry (Sambucus canadensis). Look out for them as you enjoy the Esplanade!

VOLUNTEERS IN THE PARK
In September, 43 dedicated individuals volunteered in the Park, raking leaves, laying mulch, clearing litter, and removing invasive species. We sincerely thank the following companies and organizations for their time and financial support of the Esplanade Association:
AIG, Boston Cares, True Motion, Wells Fargo, and  Wells Fargo Advisors

12 volunteers from True Motion raked leaves, mulched, weeded, and planted near the Charles River Bistro

If you're interested in scheduling a volunteer event on the Esplanade for your company or group, please email  Micah Jasny

SHARING THE PATHS
Spend a few minutes on the Esplanade during rush hour, or on a beautiful fall weekend, and you'll see hundreds of people out running, biking, rollerblading, strolling, and more. On these busy days, it's important that all Park users feel welcome and safe.

Here are a few ways you can make the pathways safer every day:
1. Walk your bikes over the footbridges.
2. When exiting footbridges, make sure to look in all directions before making your turn or continuing straight.
3. If traveling at high speeds (running or biking), stick to pathways closer to Storrow Drive.
4. If traveling at low speeds (walking), stick to the pathways closer to the Charles River.

Thank you for your courtesy and cooperation!
