EtchSentials
A New Line of Photo-Etched Sets by Aviaeology
We are pleased to finally be able to offer the launch sets of our new EtchSentials line as pre-order discount items in this newsletter.

The idea behind EtchSentials is to offer sets that provide essential parts to help our customers complete projects to the level of detail and authenticity that we believe Aviaeology users generally aspire to.

The current work-in-progress short-list includes sets big and small - from large frets of parts that cover complex subjects (as with this offer's Mosquito R/P rig) to smaller quick-build sets (as in the Gee Mk.II set also on offer here). While they may not be the whole "kit and caboodle," replacing a large number of any given kit's plastic parts with photo-etched ones, they will, we believe add to the finished model in some essential way.

This pre-order promotion features a 15% discount on all pre-ordered items. The promotion ends at midnight on August 21st, 2016, at which time the discount links will be removed. All sets will be available at the regular price (get the current product price list here) in our eShop on eBay once they are in stock (anticipated, mid-October).
Mosquito R/P rig Mk.IIIA (tiered) for
Coastal Strike Wing Mosquito FB.VI's

Based on primary source technical documentation and careful interpretation of the photographic record, this set includes the metal parts and documentation needed to model one complete installation of the tiered Mk.IIIA Rocket Projectile (R/P) Beams (i.e. launch rails) and drop tank jettisoning guard rail assembles. The many long. thin cross-section parts required to model the rig are built up from precisely milled metal, eliminating the worry of warp and sag that can eventually affect similar parts made of unreinforced resin and styrene.

For use on Mosquito FB.VI CF (Coastal Fighter) aircraft of the Banff Strike Wing's 143, 235, 248, 404, and 489 (after VE-Day) Squadrons from early March 1945. For example, in 1/24 scale, this is the correct loadout for both FB.VI Coastal Fighter examples portrayed in the current boxing of the Airfix 1/24 scale Mosquito, our own AODxx011 (404 Sqn Mosquitoes, all four scales), and some of the subjects in our forthcoming AODxx023 (Banff Strike Wing Mosquitoes, all four scales planned).

Rocket bodies and heads are not included in this set but fins (two different types) and fin assembly jigs are. The documentation also includes illustrated notes to help you to produce accurate rocket rounds from either kit, aftermarket, or scratchbuilding materials options.

Available in 1/72, 1/48, 1/32, and 1/24 scales.*

Four 8.5 x 11 inch pages of documentation, including period photographs and technical materials outtakes, finishing notes, and clear scale illustrations. **

* Both parts make-up and detail representation are handled differently in each scale due to practical size and final assembly considerations.
** Laser-printed b&w hardcopy supplied in the package, Home-printable colour PDF version available via email after purchase.

Gee Mk.II (ARI 5083) cockpit components for Mosquitoes, Beaufighters, and others
Based on primary source technical documentation ranging from Mosquito specific and broader RAF manuals to hard-to-find Beaufighter installation drawings, as well as interpretation of the photographic record, this set includes the metal parts and documentation needed to model the Airborne Radio Installation (ARI) 5083 Gee Mk.II components present in the cockpit of a very large number of home-based (UK) and continental Europe based (post D-Day) fighter nosed Mosquitoes, as well as all Coastal Command Beaufighter TF.Xs operational in both front line strike squadrons and the Coastal OTUs from late 1943, early 1944 onwards.

The structural mounting hardware for both of these aircraft types is included in all but the 1/24th scale set, which has only the Mosquito mounting hardware. Mounting hardware specifics aside, this set may be adapted to models of many other larger aircraft types in RAF Bomber, Coastal and Transport Commands, as well of those of some other Allied air arms that used the UK Gee Chain in the Second World War.

Surprisingly, to date these often-used components are missing in nearly all kits of the Mosquito and Beaufighter in all scales. The new Tamiya 1/32 scale Mosquito is an exception; it features a nice set of ARI 5083 components, but these can be further enhanced (especially the mounting hardware) or replaced with EtchSentials set as well.

It should also be noted that later-service bomber-nosed Mosquitoes also used variations of ARI 5083, but the equipment distribution within the aircraft was not the same as that in the FB.VI and other fighter-nosed examples.

The Beaufighter mounting hardware detail parts are included in all but hte 1/24 scale set.
** Laser-printed b&w hardcopy supplied in the package, Home-printable colour PDF version available via email after purchase.
