Message from the Rabbi
Parshat Acharei Mot-Kedoshim
Kedusha is a tricky thing.  I am not talking about the part of the repetition of Shemoneh Esrei where you are supposed to stand at attention quietly while engaging with the Shaliach Tzibbur during this holy prayer.  (This is challenging for some to do though).
The Torah commands us to carry ourselves with a level of sanctity so that others will look upon us and say that we are a Godly people.  We want to set ourselves apart (while blending in at the same time) through Torah, Mitzvot and decency.
This past week as the world celebrated Yom Ha'Atzmaut, we here in Livingston were able to partake in what I felt was a true Kiddush Hashem.  Our City Council held a ceremony where the Israeli Flag was raised.  Words of praise were uttered, the Prayer for Israel was recited, and Hatikvah was sung by all.  Imagine that.  An Israeli flag flying high next to the Stars and Stripes for all to see.
For me, the sanctity came when all types of Jews came out in great number for the ceremony.  All the community rabbis were in attendance in a very united front.
When the ceremony ended, a man asked me if he could get a copy of the Prayer for Israel. He said he was not Jewish, but that he appreciated how I read it in English.  I gave him the copy in my pocket and we became fast friends.
People are always watching us waiting for us to misstep. We cannot allow that to happen.  Be on your best behavior!
Shabbat Shalom
Pirkei Avot is Back!

Now that Shabbat afternoons are longer, come join us for our very popular series on
Pirkei Avot.

Each Shabbat afternoon from now until the early summer, we will meet at different homes in the community for enlightening study and discussion.

This Shabbat we will hold the shiur at the home of Yaffite and Rabbi David Bendory at 6:30pm.
Rabbi Bendory will deliver the Shiur.

*If you would like to host a class, please let Rabbi Klibanoff know soon, as spots are filling up!
