Pirkei Avot is Back!

Now that Shabbat afternoons are longer, come join us for our  very popular series on Pirkei Avot.

Each Shabbat afternoon, from now until early summer, we will have an elongated Seudat Shlishit following Mincha.  During this time we will study and converse about the weekly chapter of Pirkei Avot.

Everyone is encouraged to attend.

Rabbi's Message
Parshat Behar-Bechukotai
This looks to be shaping up to be some weekend!  As I have mentioned here many times, one cannot casually dismiss the anomalies of the Jewish calendar.  One also has to see how those events become intertwined with other secular and world events.

Sunday - Mother's Day.  (Every day is Mother's Day)
Sunday - Yom Yerushalayim - number 51
Monday - Historic move of U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem on anniversary of May 14, 1948
Tuesday - Rosh Chodesh Sivan
Tuesday - Ramadan begins

I would say that we should have a cautious  optimism about the confluence of these events.  Things are already "Heating up" in Israel as we saw rockets fired in the North followed by a fierce IDF retaliation in Syria, the likes of which have not been seen since 1973.   This is a dangerous, yet monumental time.

Let us all Daven for the safety and well being of all our brothers and sisters in  Israel.  Let us hope that this week will be as festive and meaningful as it was when the Jews appraoched Mount Sinai so many years ago at this time.

Before We Were Yours
by Lisa Wingate

Based on one of America's most notorious real-life scandals--in which Georgia Tann, director of a Tennessee adoption organization, kidnapped and sold poor children to wealthy families all over the country--Lisa Wingate's riveting, wrenching, and ultimately uplifting tale reminds us how, even though the paths we take can lead to many places, the heart never forgets
where we belong.
