Message from the Rabbi
Parshat Noach

In this week's Torah reading, we meet (once again) Noach and his family. So soon after we read of creation and the beginnings of humanity, we are introduced to the unfortunate corruption of humanity. Hashem decides to have a "Do-Over" (or a "HIndu" as my father taught me from his handball days) and He brings a flood to destroy almost everything in the world.

I can only imagine how difficult this Parsha must be for those we know who have endured all kinds of natural disasters over the course of recent weeks.

Some commentaries have pointed out with disappointment that Noach saved no one besides his immediate family. He had years to warn and prepare, yet less than a Minyan made it on board.

Our duty as Hashem's creations is to look out to the world and see those who are in need. We have to take responsibility for those around us and not just ourselves. Considering what is going on all over the world, this is a most poignant message for us to ponder as begin the year in earnest.

Shabbat Shalom
