Rabbi's Message
Parshat Shelach

Israel is hard.  Plain and simple.  Ask anyone who was born there, lived there, moved there or left there.  The Talmud tells us that one of the things that is acquired only through "Yesurim" - hardships - is Israel.

Indeed, we witness this with the debacle of the spies.  Yes, they reported on what was good, but they emphasized all that they saw as wrong and lacking.

There is no question that Israel historically until this very day is fraught with challenges and uphill battles.  One could easily follow the multitudes and majority (as Bnai Yisrael followed the majority number of spies) and see all that is wrong with Israel.  However, as a people with faith in Hashem and that which is "Lema'alah Min Hateva," we should focus on all that is right with Israel.

We all have Caleb and Joshua within us.  It is just a matter of finding the right voice.
