The fate of the people were doomed. There was a negative report (perhaps the first episode of "Fake News") and they simply could not recover.
When everyone else is filling the naysayer role, what should we do? Follow the majority or have the courage of conviction? Calev and Yehoshua opted for the latter. They silenced the crowd with the words "Alo Na'Aleh." They said simply that indeed we CAN do this.
Sometimes it is the most simple of phrases that propel us to get things done. When others say it cannot be done, we respond with our own version of "Alo Na'Aleh."
More than twenty years ago I am sure there were people who said Etz Chaim could not happen. It's a bad idea. You will surely fail. And look at us now.
I am so proud to be leading this congregation. Celebrating with you all this past week only solidified that feeling.
So now it is time to work on the next twenty years. When you will be approached to pitch in and lend your hand, your response should simply be "Alo Na"Aleh!" We can and we will succeed.
Shabbat Shalom.
