Big Month Ahead for Mackenna Shea
Mackenna and Landioso taking in the beautiful English countryside!
These past few weeks have been a whirlwind for Mackenna! On May 18th, she and Landioso departed for England to participate in the 2017 Karen E. Stives Eventing Emerging Athlete tour, and they arrived safely and ready to tackle the new challenges ahead of them.

Unfortunately, Landioso came down with shipping fever shortly after their arrival, and in the best interest of his health, Mackenna decided to not compete at the Houghton Hall CICO3* or the Bramham International CCI3*-U25 in order to ensure that Landi is at full strength before returning to competition. Mackenna is so grateful for the veterinarians who caught it so early and for the entire US Equestrian Team for their support. She is still excited to cheer on teammate Caroline Martin next weekend at Bramham and take in all of the action!

Thankfully, Mackenna is thrilled to report that Landi seems to be on the road to a full recovery and has been feeling better every day. As they say, when one door closes, another one opens, and she has made the decision to remain in England for the next few months in order to take advantage of all the incredible opportunities that the European summer eventing season has to offer. She is currently planning to kick off their European campaign at the Barbury International Horse Trials in England on July 6th-9th. From there, she hopes to head to Aston Le Walls on the 21st of July and then compete at the Gatcombe International Horse Trials the first weekend of August as her and Landi's final preparation to contest the prestigious Burghley CCI4* at the end of August. While this schedule is still tentative and Landioso will have the final say on whether he is up to the task, all signs have been extremely positive, and Mackenna is looking forward to these new opportunities!

She would not have been able to do any of this without the incredible support of the entire US Eventing team and is so thankful for all the guidance she has received in this process from developing rider coach Leslie Law. It's shaping up to be an exciting few months for Mackenna and Landi! Make sure to stay tuned for more updates on their time abroad.

As she soaks in everything she can on her trip, Mackenna would like to send a huge thank you to her amazing support team - from her incredible coaches, Tamie and Heather, to her wonderful owners, sponsors, friends, and family for their unwavering support. She's so excited to extend her adventure, and she hopes this opportunity will further prepare her to continue representing the United States internationally in the future.
