Maynard Evans High School Community Brief
Monday, December 13, 2021
Evans Community Member,

Welcome to Evans High School, "A Place of High Achievement" where our focus is on literacy, rigor and relationships. Our school's pillars of pride, determination and perseverance continue to be on display daily by our students, staff and community.

2nd Quarter Academic Progress
If you have a student attending Evans, please sit down with him or her as soon as possible and review their results. If your student is progressing toward academic success this 9 weeks, please celebrate and continue to encourage their effort. If your student has some missing assignments or needs to make up quizzes or a test, we have several options available for our Trojans in the way of tutoring. I encourage you to reach out to your student's teachers and take full advantage of tutoring options available before final grades are issued for the 2nd quarter. Even more important, semester grades will be calculated. This will have an impact on student overall grade point averages. For our 9th grade students, this 9 weeks is critical as our freshmen will have their 1st semester cumulative GPA assigned.

Holiday Food Giveaway
On December 18th from 10:00-12:00, Evans will be hosting our Annual Holiday Food Giveaway. As Trojans, we are pleased to work with such great organizations that continue to provide essential supplies for our students, families, and community.
At the holiday giveaway event this year, each family will receive a box of food and a 12-15 pound whole frozen turkey. (Pictured above is a past year holiday giveaway.)
Teach-In
In this week's update you will find some inspiring pictures from our Teach-In event. Thank you so much to our guests that carved out time from their busy schedules to speak with the students about their career and educational choices. I think you will find that the pictures below speak for themselves as the students were most captivated and the presentations will leave a lasting effect. We are greatly appreciative of everyone's time and effort!

On behalf of the Evans High School faculty and staff, I would like to wish you and your family a very happy and safe holiday. See you in the New Year!

Mr. Bailey
Principal

Teach-In
Evans High School would like to thank all of the volunteers who came to speak to our students during this year’s Teach-In event! Community members joined us from companies such as Coca-Cola and various law firms to the fire department. They were able to reach approximately 750 students providing them with college, career and motivational messages.
Quotes / Reflections from the Students:
Most valuable piece of information they shared with you…

  • “Failure will be our biggest teacher in life and that you can’t learn without failing.”

  • “The most valuable piece of information they shared was that they are willing to work with their clients to get to a better place in life and that we should take advantage of the opportunities that are given to us.”

  • “Success looks different for everyone.”

  • “Make your own decisions. You have to have intrinsic motivation to do what you want to do. Do it for ourselves and not for others.”

I would describe our overall experience as:

  • “10/10! Would listen again!”

  • “I loved it and would love if she were to come speak again.”

  • “It was life-changing, and encouraging.”

  • “Uplifting and a powerful message”
