Maynard Evans High School Community Brief
Tuesday, March 9, 2021
Evans Community Member,

Thank you for your commitment to making Evans High School, "A Place of High Achievement." Our focus is on Literacy, Rigor, and Relationships and our school's pillars of Pride, Determination, and Perseverance continue to be on display by our students, staff and community.

This is the last week of the 3rd quarter and there is no school for our Trojans on Friday, March 12 just ahead of the March 15-19 spring break. Please be mindful that March 12 is a teacher workday as teachers work to finalize grades. I encourage any of our Trojans with missing assignments or need to retake exams to get those completed as soon as possible.

As we look to support our Trojans over Spring Break, school will be open to students to attend our credit recovery camp. The camp will be held on Monday, March 15-17th. Students will attend from 9am until noon. Our student services team will be making phone calls to students who need to recover credits not earned from previous courses taken. If your student would like to attend, please contact their guidance counselor directly via-e-mail or call student services at 407-522-3400 ex 6232249.

Every 2nd Tuesday of the month we hold our PTSA/SAC meetings in our media center starting at 5:30pm. To date, we have enjoyed great attendance by our students, parents and staff. Our agenda for Tuesday, March 9 will include 2021 testing schedule, 2021 innovative schedule for students and staff, graduation and class of 2021 senior activities.

Go Trojans!

On the SAT practice exam she had the highest score and is still truly humble with a genuine desire to keep improving.
The Green Machine - District MPA’s
Trojan Band earns multiple top awards during their 2020-2021 Music Performance Assessment!
Congratulations to our band students on a very successful FBA District 8 Solo & Ensemble MPA event. Over the last 2 weeks our students have been pre-recording their solo and ensemble performances, then attended a virtual meeting with a FBA certified adjudicator to earn a rating on their performance. In total, our Trojan Band students earned 37 Superior, 11 Excellent, and 2 Good ratings. As well, 8 solos and 1 ensemble have qualified for State Solo & Ensemble!

In the midst of a global pandemic, and the majority of our band students being LaunchEd, the traditional idea of “band” looks very different than it has in the past. Taking everything into account I am very proud of this achievement and the progress of our program thus far. Please understand that what our students are doing is not normal, and it is not easy. The FBA Chairman for District 8 reached out to me commending our program for having so many students participating in this event. This is a testament to the dedication of our students, as this event was completely optional, and many of the schools in our district decided not to participate at all. Thank you for your continuous love and support of the Trojan Band program, the fine arts, and most of all our students.

Special Recognition
Please join us in congratulating Chris Lopez on being selected for the 2021 OCPS All-County Band! Chris is our F Horn and Mellophone section leader, and will be performing at FBA State Solo & Ensemble as he recently earned a Superior rating for his solo performance at the district level. Mr. Ford shares his sincerest apologies with Chris and his family as his name was mistakenly left from the original All-County Band announcement.
2021 All-County Band (Evans HS):
Jeremiah Nunez – Flute/Piccolo, Chris Lopez – F Horn, Kevin Oriol - Tuba

Q: What is your degree in?
A: I received a Bachelors of Business Administration

Q: What do you like to do outside of school?

Q: What do you like most about working at Evans/being a Trojan?

Q: A piece of advice for our students…
A: Some advice I have for our students is to focus on making time for yourself and practicing self-care, try things outside of your comfort zone and work to overcome obstacles that stop you from being successful. Do not stop - keep trying until you accomplish your goals.

Teachers participated in a professional learning opportunity centered around Social Emotional Learning and then were able to select a training to engage with centered around Digital Tools for Processing and Engagement. Teachers were led by our amazing digital curriculum teacher leaders (Ms. Verzi, Ms. Byrne, Mr. Randolph, Mr. Harrell, and Mr. Perez) who each modeled a tool that they use in their classrooms for student engagement and processing.
