June marked the beginning of hurricane season.

As mentioned by the weather channel, 2016’s hurricane impact is expected to be far greater than the 2015 hurricane storm.

In fact, Dr. Phil Klotzbach of Colorado State University’s lead forecaster expects 14 named storms, six hurricanes and two major hurricanes this season.

Flood Watches Issued in Florida

Flood Watches were issued in Florida last month, after heavy rain lingered in the aftermath of tropical storm Colin. The National Weather Service issued flood watches for parts of the central Florida peninsula, including Tampa, Sarasota, Melbourne and Vero Beach. Some of these regions were already saturated from heavy rains caused by Tropical Storm Colin. According to FEMA: 6 inches of water will reach the bottom of most passenger cars, causing loss of control and potential stalling 1 foot of water will float many vehicles 2 feet of rushing water will carry away most vehicles, including SUVs and pickups

Before the storm... • Stay up-to-date on storm's progress • Ensure you have emergency communication plan in place prior to the storm, evacuation or treat • Backup all data on servers and personal computers. If the backup site is within the area that may be affected by the storm, take backup tapes with you in the evacuation • Turn off all non-critical devises such as server monitors, work stations and other non-essential electrical equipment • Check the integrity of the uninterruptible power supply (UPS) and move it to the highest level possible above the floor • Inspect and make emergency repairs to drains gutters and flashing • Strap or anchor to roof deck support assembly (all roof mounted equipment such as HVAC units and exhaust vent) • Strap /Relocate vital records • Install windstorm shutter/plywood over windows and doors • Take the following steps so that items will not blow away or cause damage • Remove all loose debris .
