One of the leading Bible scholars in the country, Dr. Evelyn Laycock will host Bishop Will Willimon of the North Alabama Conference and Rev. Gina Campbell of the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C. as preachers and Dr. J. Ellsworth Kalas from Asbury Seminary as the Bible Study teacher. This will be one of the finest gatherings Epworth has ever held and worthy of our strongest support.

 

Bishop William H. Willimon, Preaching

The Reverend Dr. William H. Willimon has been a Bishop of the United Methodist Church since 2004. He recently retired from the North Alabama Conference. A graduate of Wofford College; Yale Divinity School and Emory University he has served as pastor of churches in Georgia and South Carolina and taught at Duke Divinity School. He has been awarded honorary degrees from a dozen colleges and universities and was named as the
first Distinguished Alumnus of Yale Divinity School in 1992. Bishop Willimon has served on the faculty of Birmingham-Southern College and Duke University Divinity School.

He is the author of sixty books. His Worship as Pastoral Care was selected as one of the ten most useful books for pastors by the Academy of Parish Clergy. His books haves been translated into eight languages. In 1996 an international survey by Baylor University named him one of the Twelve Most Effective Preachers in
the English speaking world.

His articles have appeared in many publications including The Christian Ministry and Worship and Christianity Today. Bishop Willimon has given lectures and taught courses at many pastors' schools and at colleges and universities in the United States, Canada, Europe and Asia.

 

Rev. Gina Campbell, Preaching

As Director of Worship for the Washington National Cathedral, Rev. Campbell provides leadership and direction for numerous worship groups - including communion ministers,nave chaplains and lectors. She has also served as the chaplain to various Cathedral choirs. She works closely with the dean, vicar and the director of program and ministry as a teacher in areas of Christian formation and education. Like other clergy on the Cathedral staff, she also serves as a pastor and preacher to the broad Cathedral community and the congregation.

An ordained United Methodist Minister with 35 years of experience serving Methodist congregations,Rev. Campbell has over 30 years of experience as a nationally recognized consultant in family systems and the impact of systems work in the church. Since 2008 she has served as the music librarian for the Cathedral's music program. She is well known in the Cathedral community as a preacher, pastor and worship leader.

 

Dr. J. Ellsworth Kalas, Bible Study Teacher

After 38 years as a pastor in churches in Wisconsin and Ohio, and five years as an associate in evangelism with the World Methodist Council, Dr. Kalas came to Asbury Theological Seminary in 1993 and joined the Seminary preaching faculty in 2000. A former president of Asbury, he is now the Senior Professor of Homiletics. He has received honorary degrees from four colleges and universities.More than 35 of his books have been published as well as 13 adult study quarterlies. He has recorded the entire Bible on audiotape, along with his Grand Sweep devotionals. He is also the author of Christian Believer, an intensive study of Christian doctrine produced for interdenominational use.
