2013 Trip Schedule

bEven More Not Your Average Adventures -

The last three in our lineup of Specialty Trips for 2013

Localize! - Farm-to-River on the Tuolumne
Farm-to-River
Be a locavore (and a locaoenophile) for three wonderful days on the Tuolumne. Enjoy fresh, organic, and mouth-watering meals matched with enticing local wines,  and enjoyed riverside in the spectacular Tuolumne canyon. We can't wait!

fly-fishing on the Middle Fork Salmon
The Middle Fork of the Salmon is home to some of the best trout fishing in the West and our special 5 day trip is designed to put as many of them as possible on the end of your line. We'll also raft, swim, hike, soak, laugh and tell lies and stories.

Rafting with the Stars!
Raft the astronomically fun rapids of the Tuolumne during the day and lie on the beach and watch the real stars (and meteors) perform at night. Cal-Poly Professor John Keller will help us understand what we're wishing upon!

cWhat Not To Ask

We love answering questions, but here are 11 that our guides really don't want to hear:

1. What is that hissing sound?
2. Doesn't your guidehouse have a shower?
3. Is the groover always on its side?
4. Click here to read the rest...

dSupport the Tuolumne - Paddle to the Sea!

Paddle to the sea
We're helping the Tuolumne Trust by hosting the first leg of their annual Paddle-to-the-Sea event. Join us for a fun two-day Tuolumne trip on May 17 and 18 and we'll donate $100 per person to the Trust and get you tickets to the Kick Off Concert in Groveland for the afternoon we get off the river! Or, if you can't join us, sponsor a paddler and support the cause!

eLegendary Moments in ARTA History
Our First Whitewater Schools

The more things change, the more they stay the same...
Then and now

50 years ago, our whitewater schools were life-changing adventures full of thrilling escapades, curious nicknames, smelly river attire, fast friendships, and broken-down buses. Today, they are still all that (without the broken down buses).

Then and now 2
ARTA has always supported the right to bare arms.

f2013 Whitewater Schools Almost Full!
Every year, some well-intentioned, enthusiastic procrastinator ends up on the notorious "Whitewater School Wait-List" because they called too late. Don't let it be you! The Oregon School is full. There are 2 spaces left on the California Pro Guide Course, 1 space left on the Idaho Rowing School and just a handful of spaces left on both Junior Schools. Don't wait!

gSnowpack Report

2013 Snowpack Map
And what it means:
Free-flowing rivers:
The Selway, Salmon and Yampa should be fine; snowpacks in the 80 to 90 percent range provide plenty of water. We'll probably start flying in on the Middle Fork on July 26th, but spring conditions will impact that. On the Yampa, July 10th is pretty much out of the question, but we can't complain because up until about 2 weeks ago we were worried about our late June Yampa trips. The Illinois is happening right now, (literally); we're hoping to get one more trip this week, then we'll wait for next spring. The Merced will have a short season, like May.
Dam-controlled rivers:
The Rogue and Green are fine; there are big reservoirs upstream and there will be good (and warmer) flows all summer - excellent family conditions! The South Fork American should have 5 or 6 days of water per week through Labor Day (avoid Tuesdays and Wednesdays) and the Middle Fork American should have 7 days of water per week in June, July and August. The Tuolumne is in great shape with some higher flows in May (GO NOW!) and normal controlled flows from early June through Labor Day.
