Dear Friends,

Soroptimist International of Corona and the Alliance for Family Wellness is pleased to announce our first ever "Evening of Laughter" to be held on Saturday January 24th at 7:00 p.m. The silent auction and appetizers are at 6 p.m., followed by an exciting evening of outstanding comedians that will have the audiences laughing.

Alliance for Family Wellness (AFW) has been created and incorporated out of the expressed need in the western Riverside County communities where services are not currently being provided for individuals and families impacted by violence. Two target areas that are currently identified include intimate partner abuse and child abuse. Local services available within the community are essential and lifesaving. Individuals and families that have experienced abuse need readily accessible services. Often times these individuals fail to seek services due to obstacles. Some of the known obstacles are having a very narrow window of opportunity to escape their abuser, limited transportation, and lack of understanding of available resources and support.

We have received support to date from the United Way, the Riverside County Board of Supervisors,. Soroptimist International, the Women's Improvement Club and other businesses. We have strong collaboration with the school district, the Corona Police Department, and the Trauma Intervention Program to provide services that are collaborative. Additionally, we work with the family law court in Riverside County and serve their clients who are experiencing divorce but also have high level of conflict in the home and danger during separation.

In addition, Soroptimist International of Corona is co-sponsoring this event in honor of Human Trafficking Awareness Month. Did you know that human trafficking averages 38 billion dollar a year? Did you know that a runaway will be contacted within 48 hours of running away by someone who will try and lure them into sexual exploitation? It's happening right here in Riverside County!
