In November, Georgia PTA joins National PTA's
Every Child in Focus campaign in the celebration
of Native American Heritage Month.
There are three (3) American Indian tribes in Georgia - The Cherokee Tribes of Georgia; The Lower Muscogee Creek Tribe; and the Georgia Tribe of Eastern Cherokee. More information can be found at the link below.
According to the National Congress of American Indians, more than 30% of the Native American-Indian population is under the age of 18, compared to only 24% of the total population who are under the age of 18. This sizable young population represents a critical opportunity to ensure all youth and families are engaged, supported and provided tools and resources they need to thrive. There are
approximately 644,000 Native American-Indian students in the U.S. K-12 system, with 90% of students attending public schools. Georgia has less than 1% Native American-Indian students reported in our public schools presently but has a rich Native American history.
Every Child in Focus
reinforces National PTA's mission to advocate for every child-with one voice-so all families feel invited and welcomed within PTA, and are equipped with the tools to support their child and improve the school, which makes a difference for every child.
