Ex Arsenal FC Head of Youth Coaching
Joins Next Gen USA
Terry Burton appointed as International Development Consultant
Next Gen USA have announced that highly regarded coach and youth development expert, Terry Burton, has joined Next Gen USA as an International Development Consultant. Burton’s impressive experience includes being Head of Coaching at Arsenal F.C, under Arsene Wenger. Technical Director of West Bromwich Albion. First Team Manager at Wimbledon F.C., First Team coach at Cardiff City and Reading, and most recently, Technical Scout for the England National Team.
In alignment with Next Gen USA’s developmental purpose of supporting U.S. Soccer’s identification and development of promising young players, Burton’s role will initially focus on the following three impact objectives:
  • Research and implementation of global best practices in how national associations are bridging the gap between club and country for elite young players

  • Working with Next Gen USA Select Squads & Next Gen Leadership Academy to create development pathway opportunities with top European professional clubs

  • Working closely with Next Gen USA Technical Director, Jeff Bookman, to design and develop a Grassroots Club Support Program.

“I have known Terry for a very long time. His appointments with the clubs and managers he has worked with shows just how well he is respected at the highest level of the game in England. It is also a testament to the work that is going on at Next Gen USA that Terry has agreed to offer his advice and support to our programs. We are delighted to have him on board,” said Jeff Bookman. Burton spent last week coaching students at the Next Gen Leadership Academy. He also took time to visit local Emerging Talent Centers and address players & parents at Next Gen’s District Development Festival.

Burton quoted, “In the week that I spent with Next Gen, I saw for myself what I had been hearing for quite a while back home, and that is how much talent there is in the USA! I fully support Next Gen’s best-with-best initiative, because it definitely helps accelerate the development of the most promising players. The enthusiasm and participation that the young players showed for Next Gen’s off-the-field Character of Champions program was among the highlights of my short visit, and is something I think should be embraced by all clubs focused on Youth Development.”
