Through this new phase, there will be access to venues and establishments that feature inside and outside facilities to accommodate social distancing.

Businesses are opening their doors and are continuing to operate under the health and safety guidelines set forth by the state and federal government .

 Recovery & Reopening


Prince George's County enters into a Full Phase two reopening and we look forward to reuniting our communities. The health and safety of our businesses, residents and visitors continues to be our top priority, therefore facial coverings and social distancing are required.


Get ready for fun times! Step out and explore a number of our top attractions. Expect limited capacities and other safety measures. Some attractions require advance reservations. Please visit their websites for more information and to reserve your spot.

The U.S. Travel Association is supporting The Pandemic Risk Reinsurance Program, a system of shared public and private compensation for business-interruption losses resulting from future pandemics or public health emergencies. 


 

 

New research from the Global Research Travel Association (GBTA) reports higher levels of optimism in the business travel sector have started to appear. 


To continue to understand the effects of the coronavirus on business travel, GBTA conducted its eighth poll among members from June 9-14, 2020. GBTA received responses from 1,708 member companies throughout the world. View the entire poll results here.

The GBAC STAR program, created by the Global Biorisk Advisory Council (a division of ISSA  , the worldwide cleaning industry association), provides venue-cleaning professionals best practices on how to prepare and respond to infectious diseases and bio-hazards
 
In order to earn a GBAC STAR accreditation, each venue must complete 20 program elements with specific performance and guidance criteria.   
  

In a story published last September in the Harvard Business Review, Ruchika Tulshyan, author of The Diversity Advantage, asked: What will it take to improve diversity at conferences? The Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA) compiled her suggestions together to create a 8 step guide to racially diversifying conferences.

Industry Movers

Ted Fleurimond has been named General Manager of the Hyatt Place National Harbor hotel in Maryland by OTO Development.
 
Fleurimond has more than 20 years' experience in the hospitality industry including spending the past six years as General Manager of the Hampton Inn & Suites National Harbor. Fleuirmond previously served as General Manager of the SpringHill Suites in Columbia, Md., and the SpringHill Suites in Baltimore.

 Arts & Culture


The historic Riversdale House Museum located at 4811 Riverdale Road in Riverdale Park,MD put together two new self-guided outdoor tours  of its grounds and architecture for visitors during the coronavirus pandemic.



Wrap up your holiday weekend taking in one of the most diverse and spectacular collections of Black art in the region!

Several of the artists whose work is on display will be on-site to talk with you about their work! Be on the lookout for Wellspring favorites: Jay Durrah, Erasto Curtis Matthews, Sonia Jones, Sharon Fox-Mould, Luther Wright, and more!

This is a free event and open to the public.  In keeping with the guidelines of the CDC and local officials, facial coverings must be worn at all times and there will be limit ed access to each gallery to no more than 20 guests at a time. Registration required. To register, click here.


How are the teens in your life handling this time of intense change? Robin Stevens Payes, writer, consultant and author, has developed a special journaling workshop called The Story of Your Life: Journaling Through Times of Change and Crisis. Designed for youth ages 13-18, Payes will guide participants on a journey toward discovering the power of personal story.

This July 4th , National Harbor is partnering with Washington Performing Arts and The U.S. Air Force Band for a special online live streaming concert featuring World-renowned guest artists. 

The event will be hosted by Washington, D.C.'s own Aaron Gilchrist, morning anchor on NBC4. The live stream can be viewed on YouTube  
on July 4th at 4:00 pm.

 


Join The Old Greenbelt Theater in a digital space for their "Flick of the Week" discussion designed to keep you connected to film and to the community . Every week they will have a new recommendation to share with you, along with a Sunday Zoom conversation.

Play More TV airs on the Bowie State University TV station, on Comcast 74 and Verizon 43 channels at 8 a.m., 2 p.m., 5 p.m., 8 p.m. 9:30 p.m., 12:30 a.m. and 4 a.m.

The Maryland Sports Commission has put together a committee report that details updated resources and links regarding youth and amateur sports opening up. The information is separated by primary sources, secondary sources, sport activity, and county.

Community Highlights


A young author in Prince George's County is using his voice to help other kids stand up to bullies. Colbie McAllister, an 11-year-old  recently wrote a book about a boy that is bullied but finds a magic crystal that gives him superpowers to face his bullies.


 

 

  

The Prince George's County Memorial Library System (PGCMLS) is now live and looks forward to welcoming readers back to the Library. Book drops open on Thursday, July 9th and curbside service begins on Tuesday, July 21st. 

  

The Bowie City Council recently approved $200,000 to the Bowie Business Innovation Center and Greater Bowie Chamber of Commerce to help small business owners find funding and adapt as they recover from the coronavirus pandemic.

Prince George's restaurants are now open and operating but we still have you covered with a variety of delivery and carry-out options. 


A Soul Food Truck truck called A Place to Walk To just went the brick-and-mortar route bringing its customers around Prince George's County a fixed location for its chicken and waffles, jerk wings, shrimp and grits, mac and cheese, and grilled cheeseburgers.
