Make an impact this holiday season
A note from Scott Clifford, Board Vice Chair
Scott and Nancy Clifford

As we find ourselves in the midst of the holiday season, it is easy for each of us to become overwhelmed by holiday parties, holiday cards, holiday concerts, holiday dinners, holiday parties and dreaded shopping! It is during these times that we can lose our focus. We should remember at this time of year what is truly important- family. Family is what the holidays represent. Family is also what the Ellie Fund represents.

A close friend of mine was diagnosed with breast cancer seven years ago. She was fortunate to have an involved family along with friends and neighbors who were able to help in the first several months of her battle with the disease. I felt an overwhelming need to do something. That is when my friend introduced me to the Ellie Fund, by sharing the story of a single mother of four who was actively being treated for breast cancer while working full time to keep her health insurance. I was astounded and asked how she was doing it. The answer was the support she was receiving from the Ellie Fund, who was providing her and her children with hot and nutritious meals. It meant the world to this single mother. Instead of coming home from work or after treatment and worrying about what she was going to cook, she was able to rest and get back to her real job, her family.

Over the last seven years (and the last five on the Board of Directors), I have been moved countless times by stories like this and the incredible impact a single donation can have on a family. This year, my office, instead of distributing gifts to some of our corporate clients as a thank you, will be making a donation in the client's name to the Ellie Fund.

"Supporting Patients, Funding Care, Providing Hope." I cannot think of better words to describe what the Ellie Fund truly means to families throughout Massachusetts. But more importantly, I cannot think of a better way for our office to support patients, fund care and provide hope that so many families desperately need during the holidays. If you and/or your company wish to do something that will have an impact on a family who is struggling during this time, I encourage you to follow our lead by making a generous donation on behalf of your customers/clients to the Ellie Fund.

On behalf of my family, whose unwavering support allows me to devote so much time to the Ellie Fund, and The Law Offices of Lipsey & Clifford, I would like to wish everyone a wonderful and safe holiday and Happy New Year.

Nearly 200 grants were given out this quarter with over $112,000 provided in services!

Our work would not be possible without your support. donate
Because of you, we can continue to give invaluable assistance to patients like Lisa, a 49-year-old with metastatic breast cancer, who wrote to us recently sharing:

"My gift from the Ellie Fund of 3 months of grocery assistance is the best gift I could receive right now- actually at any time. What I appreciate most is the thoughtfulness and generosity of the Ellie Fund. Being able to truly experience unconditional kindness, love and support is when I am doing and feeling best. I let go of the anger and depression and let in good, positive vibes. Thank you for being a large source of that good stuff."

Your donation today will help patients like Lisa ease the burdens of breast cancer treatment on their journey towards recovery and healing.

April Soderstrom Trunk Show

Special thanks to April Soderstrom, jewelry designer extraordinaire, for donating 25% of the profits from a recent private shopping party. Over $3,500 was donated from the event to support breast cancer patients and families.

April is continuing to give through the sale of her pink crystal cluster earrings. 50% of the cost of each set benefits our mission. Attention, last-minute shoppers: they make wonderful holiday gifts!

Students for Hope

Students at Fontbonne Academy (Milton), Whitman-Hanson High, Boston College High School (Dorchester), Brennan Middle School (Attleboro), Sippican School (Marion), Nichols College (Dudley) and Roderick Elementary (Wrentham) have raised over $12,000 so far this school year in partnership with our Students for Hope program.

"At Fontbonne we believe that we are all connected to each other and so we have a responsibility to reach out and improve the lives of those we can," said Sister Betsy, Director of Mission & Ministry. "The Ellie Fund has a special place in our hearts and everyone in the community gets involved at some level."

The Ellie Fund is thrilled to have the support of so many schools, teams and clubs. In partnership with our Students for Hope program, young people of all ages take an active roll in directly alleviating the physical, emotional and financial burdens of breast cancer treatment.

Supporter Spotlight

Words cannot fully express our heartfelt gratitude for the enduring support from many of the Ellie Fund's supporters, including ARS Restoration Specialists . As one of our largest donors, ARS plays a vital role in the success of the Ellie Fund's mission and our ability to support patients by funding care and providing hope.

On December 17, our entire staff attended the Annual ARS Holiday Party where we were honored to be presented with a check for $150,000, our largest single donation ever!

We are thrilled to announce that, as a result of the generosity from ARS and all of our dedicated supporters, the Ellie Fund has surpassed a record $1,000,000 in annual fundraising!
