READ ABOUT OUR STAY AT THE SANCTUARY AT OL LENTILLE
'Your own place in the African wilderness' rings true through every experience we had at The Sanctuary at Ol Lentille - from private pool side lunches overlooking the 40,000 acre conservancy, to a private yoga class on our deck watching the sun rise and an impromptu extra quad biking expedition, you decide what you want to do and when and the staff go above and beyond to ensure that every moment is sensational.

Our 'own place in the African wilderness' was the Chief's House, the three bedroom family villa decorated with prints, artwork and artefacts from across the African continent. The sitting room, dining room, private deck, plunge pool and all three bedrooms showcased the incredible views that The Sanctuary is famous for and if I'm honest, the sunrise from the master bedroom had me ready to leave Nairobi for good..
On our game drive to our first quad biking expedition, Ol Lentille treated us to this incredible sighting - a herd of over thirty elephants enjoying the last of the mud before the rains set in.
Ol Lentille is lucky to have four packs of the endangered African wild dog in the conservancy regularly, with one pack choosing Ol Lentille as a den site for the past 7 years.
On our first morning, having heard a pack the previous night, our guide escorted us on a guided bush walk in search of them however we had just missed them - they had the upper hand, being able to travel over 60 kilometres in one day (we can't even pretend to be that fit!)

The luxury and adventure that The Sanctuary at Ol Lentille provided was matched by one thing; the exceptional community work that is made possible by the community-based conservation tourism of The Sanctuary's Ol Lentille Trust. From it's inception in 2007, in partnership with the Masai and Samburu communities, the Ol Lentille Trust has:

  • Built 4 local schools and continues to support a further 7 community Primary schools and 3 Nursery schools
  • Employed 21 teachers & assistants for the community schools
  • Provided bursaries and scholarships for Secondary school education
  • Built the Kimanjo Hospital, through the Nabakisho Healthcare Program which started as a mobile clinic in 2008, providing healthcare to the communities that was previously non existent
  • Rehabilitated a dam to provide clean water to the community

The vast and successful work of the Ol Lentille Trust is inspiring and an exceptional example of community-based conservation tourism and I recommend sharing a meal in the library with the investors, Gill & John Elias - hearing the history of the community mobile clinic, tales of baby elephant rescues and the incredible plans in store for Ol Lentille will have you feeling more like this is not just your own place in the African wilderness, but your home in the African wilderness.
