Expanding Opportunity, a Central Texas Regional Summit, brings together leaders from across the five county Austin-Round Rock-San Marcos Metropolitan area to explore how we can do a better job getting people to jobs and preparing people who live in our region for the jobs of the future.

Nov 2, 2016 10 am to 3 pm
Dell Diamond Heritage Center
3400 E. Palm Valley Blvd.

What can be done to improve access to jobs and to create a better balance between where people live and where they work?

There is a current imbalance regionally in where people live and where they work. A majority of jobs in the region are concentrated in a few job centers and some of the fastest growing residential areas have little access to training or jobs.

What are we doing to prepare people who live here for the region's good-paying jobs?

There is also an imbalance between the skills people have and the skills employers need. With an unemployment rate of less than 4%, employers have challenges finding workers and are often forced to recruit from outside the area to fill the best-paying jobs. Training our local workforce for these jobs could expand opportunity.
