| Covering Your Bases: Legal and HR Issues with Volunteers and Interns | |
|
Thursday, August 9
1:00- 4:00 pm
Maplewood, MN
Do you fully understand HR laws for volunteers, or legal liabilities of using volunteers with imperfect histories?
What is your responsibility as the volunteer manager if a background check comes back with a blemish?
Listen and understand as we learn from legal professionals who can educate us on these topics.
Mark Haase of the Council on Crime and Justice will provide an overview of recent trends and changes in the criminal justice system and the use of background checks in employment. He will also provide information regarding laws that employers need to know about when hiring people with criminal records, including the Fair Credit Reporting Act, the Civil Rights Act, human services licensing, negligent hiring liability, and expungement of records. Jenn Urban, Esq. of Urban Law Group, PLLC will discuss how these laws may impact the use of volunteers, and what measures organizations should employ in general when working with volunteers.
