Blizzard Snow Storm Juno Status Updates
Travel ban has been lifted on NYC roadways. If you MUST drive, you should drive slowly and safely. Remember before you start driving, you MUST clean up all the snow off the vehicle.
MTA Subway and Bus service started at 9am with Sunday schedule. LIRR scheduled to start service at 12pm.
Staten Island Ferry is operating on normal schedule.
You should still attempt to stay home today if you can. The road conditions are still dangerous.
Snow keeps falling, high tide looms as New England battles blizzard

The blizzard of 2015 isn't done yet. While sparing much of New York and New Jersey, the storm walloped parts of New England with several feet of snow and coastal flooding Tuesday.
N.Y. mayor: 'We've dodged the bullet'
While residents of Rhode Island and Massachusetts battled Tuesday's storm, others in the Northeast -- namely people in New York and New Jersey -- were breathing a sigh of relief.
Compare that with a day earlier, when they were more likely to be hyperventilating, given the all but cataclysmic warnings about the coming storm. They were told it could turn 58 million people's lives upside down. Seven states, from New Jersey to New Hampshire, declared states of emergency. School was called off for not just Tuesday but Wednesday as well. Public transit shut down.    Snow Accumulation: Snowfall throughout the city ranged from 6-12 inches. Wet roads may freeze overnight, watch for black ice condition. Alternate Side Parking (ASP): ASP for street cleaning suspended for today and tomorrow to facilitate snow removal. Parking meters remain in effect. Refuse & Recycling Collection: Collection service suspended to facilitate snow removal. Residents should refrain from placing material out until a resumption of service is announced. A further update on collection service will be provided tomorrow. Litter Basket Collection Service is resuming today. Snow Equipment Deployed: The Department deployed over 2,500 pieces of equipment of various sizes to clear snow conditions.
The Department has completed clearing all the primary/critical streets, almost all of the secondary streets and more than 90 percent of the sector and tertiary streets. Snow operations remain ongoing. Property owners and store fronts are reminded to clear their sidewalk areas of snow and ice.

  MTA Winter Storm Juno Update
MTA Long Island Rail Road, MTA Metro-North Railroad, MTA NYC Transit Bus and Subway service -- including Staten Island Railway (SIR) -- has been restored. Service is operating on a Sunday schedule for today, Tuesday, January 27th. All nine MTA Bridge & Tunnel facilities are open to vehicular traffic.
New York City Transit
MTA New York City Transit subway and bus service is operating on a Sunday schedule. The subway fleet was stored underground throughout the night and limited service was resumed on all lines at 8:42 a.m. Bus service is being restored incrementally and customers should be aware that some local detours may be in effect. Access-a-Ride service has also resumed.
Throughout the City, officials of the Department of buses continue to survey routes from end to end to make certain that road conditions are suitable for safety. While employees are working to clear ice and snow from subway station stairs and platforms, mainline and yard track, safety remains our highest priority. Customers should still walk with caution.

Seeks Nationwide Applicants for NEH Summer Seminar for K-12 School Teachers
Immersive Program Examining Race and Identity Hosted in Nation's Most Diverse and Rapidly Growing Asian American Urban Community The Asian American Studies Program at Hunter College, CUNY invites K-12 school teachers to apply for "Asian Americans in New York: Film & Literature," a summer seminar for school teachers funded through a generous grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities. A select cohort of sixteen educators from throughout the US will participate in this unique, immersive program, through which they will develop teaching tools to engage the diverse student populations in their home states around ideas of race, immigration and identity. New York City, that multicultural urban social laboratory that has for centuries acted as the crucible from which American identity has been shaped and challenged, is home to the nation's densest urban Asian American population, and will offer a lens into the larger sociopolitical and cultural shifts that the US is facing. 7th Precinct Police Involved Shooting in Chinatown
On Monday, January 26, 2015 at approximately 2329 hours, police responded to a call of a family dispute inside of 338 Madison Street, Apartment 2B within the confines of the 7th Precinct. Upon arrival, officers determined that a male barricaded himself inside the apartment with a female. Officers requested the NYPD Emergency
 Service Unit, which responded and established a dialogue with the suspect. While communicating with the suspect, they heard a woman inside calling for help, stating she was being stabbed by the suspect. Facing a possible life-threatening situation, ESU officers forcibly entered the apartment and made contact with the suspect, a 37 year-old male, who was observed holding a knife to the 40 year-old victim's neck. The suspect then began to stab the victim, prompting them to deploy a Conductive Energy Device (CED) to stop the attack from continuing. With the CED having no effect on the suspect, one (1) officer then discharged five (5) rounds at the suspect, striking the suspect in the torso. EMS responded and transported both the suspect and victim to Bellevue Hospital where the suspect is in critical but stable condition and the victim is in stable condition. One (1) officer was also removed to Bellevue for tinnitus and has been treated and released. Charges are pending against the suspect. A knife was recovered at the scene. The investigation is ongoing.

Apply Now to Use Governors Island's Ballfields This Summer
Winter isn't over for another couple of months, but now is the time to start planning outdoor summer fun on Governors Island.
Officials are currently accepting permit applications to use the island's picturesque baseball and softball fields, as well as a soccer field.
Those interested in reserving the space must pay a non-refundable $26 application fee, and are encouraged to apply before March 1. Games will run seven days a week on the island's three fields, between May 23 to Sept. 27.
Each of the ballfields has bleacher seating for 84 spectators and will be open during the island's public hours, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekends.

Barrier Beautification
Over the past few years, DOT Art has collaborated with New York Cares and a number of professional artists to produce 25 temporary murals on barrier sites around the City. Twice a year in fall and spring, individual artists are invited to submit proposals in response to an open call and associated deadline. DOT provides selected artists with a design honorarium in the amount of $2,000 and a materials fee of $500 to cover costs to produce stencils. DOT and NY Cares cover the cost of paint and associated materials. Volunteers from NY Cares and other local organizations assist selected artists with painting the designs on a single Saturday each season. DOT selects sites based upon community requests for beautification. Selected artists are assigned a site in one of the five boroughs. All applicants must submit a conceptual design and examples of past work for consideration.
