Greetings! 

The 4th of July starts the month with crafts, concerts and, of course, fireworks.You can also catch a prize along with a fish during the Kankakee River Fishing Derby.
 
Later in the month join us at the Chicago Bears Summer Training Camp to meet your favorite player and to see the team in action; all for free! Nationally known performer, Tone Loc, appears at the Merchant Street MusicFest, a two-day event in downtown Kankakee.

Get into the swing of summer

 

Kankakee Fishing Derby, July 1 - 8
A ten-day fishing derby that provides fun for the whole family. Catch a tagged fish or a really big fish to win prizes and cash.

 

Thee Olde Time Farm Show, July 1
Stroll down the rows of old tractors and equipment, visit the operating exhibits of old gas engines, steam engines, the sawmill, threshing and corn shelling. 
 

 

July 4th Pops Concert & Fireworks, July 4

Enjoy the sounds of the Kankakee Valley Youth Symphony Orchestra and there are lots of children's activities to entertain the family including pony rides, a petting zoo and balloon creations. The spectacular fireworks show set to music begins at dusk.

 

4th July Jubilee Craft Show, July 4

Come out and do some Christmas shopping in July. Before you settle in to watch the fireworks, visit the more than 50 vendors selling hand crafted items created by local residents.

 

MMA Cage Fights, July 7

Mixed martial arts (MMA) is a full contact combat sport that allows the use of both striking and grappling techniques, both standing and on the ground, including boxing, Brazilian jiu-jitsu, wrestling, muay Thai, kickboxing, taekwondo, karate, judo, kung fu and other styles.

 

Herscher Corn Bowl, July 13

A must for sweet corn lovers, this annual event has been pleasing taste buds since 1976. Tender ears of roasted corn are partnered with brats, barbeque sandwiches and hot dogs.

 

BBQ Fest on the River, July 14-15

Two nights, two stages, ten bands and tons of fun! Bring a hungry appetite to this brand new festival along the shores of the Kankakee River.

 

St. George Summerfest, July 15

Relax in the country atmosphere as you dine outside or inside the air-conditioned hall. You can shop in the Country Store or listen to a wide selection of music while relaxing; games are also available for the kids to win prizes.

 

Wright in Kankakee Fine Art Show, July 21-22

Art and architecture all rolled into one! View inspiring art pieces in a house designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. The event features original, handmade art in three categories.

 

Art, Image and Word, July 26 - Sept 3
On display will be artwork featured in local author James Riordan's art and poetry books.

 

Annual St. Anne Novena & St. Anne Celebration, July 26

Following Mass of anointing, the Blessed Sacrament and the relic of St. Anne will be carried among the people for blessing. There will be other events throughout the day.

 

Chicago Bears Summer Training Camp, July 26 - Aug. 16

Whether you're a hardcore football nut, or you just want to give the family a Bears experience they'll never forget, be sure to see all the fun.

 

Merchant Street MusicFest, July 27 - 28

This year featuring Tone Loc! Come join us in downtown Kankakee at the Historic Railroad Depot for two nights of music, food, and fun.

 

Big River "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" Musical, July 28 - 29
Watch the irrepressible Huck Finn as he helps his friend Jim, a slave, to escape to freedom. Their hilarious, suspenseful and heartwarming adventures bring your favorite characters from the novel to life.

 

Jim Haigh Memorial Dive, July 29

Scuba divers enjoy the beautiful ten-acre spring fed quarry; non divers can lounge under palm trees in the Caribbean themed atmosphere. Event also includes raffles, food and music.
