"The people of this State do not yield their sovereignty to the agencies which serve them. The people, in delegating authority, do not give their public servants the right to decide what is good for the people to know and what is not good for them to know. The people insist on remaining informed so that they may retain control over the instruments they have created."

Beyond public schooling, Semillas advocates for the internationally recognized rights of children, and Indigenous Peoples as proclaimed by the United Nations through cultural relevance and community empowerment across the continent. Semillas del Pueblo is a 501(c) 3 non-profit indigenous educational organization.

As Los Angeles' first public International Baccalaureate World Schools, Semillas Del Pueblo Community Schools (Semillas Del Pueblo) enrolls over 400 students in our Kinder-12 continuum of learning. Semillas is a community-based, educational non-profit organization led by Indigenous Mexican educators in Los Angeles, California.

Co-founded by indigenous educators born in Mexico, Semillas embodies a dream of an entire movement, the Chicano Movement - for an alternative education capable of fostering dignity in our children through autonomous intellect and knowledge. Moreover, Semillas represents a community-based response to the international and local call for Indigenous education guided by the UN-DRIP as a model for decolonization by Indigenous Peoples across the continent. The Semillas co-founders arose from humble beginnings, consistently committed to sacrifice, turning the privileges of education into the promotion of a generational struggle on behalf of one's People, and the whole of humanity.

URGENT NEWS: Our community recently became alarmed by Douglas Boyd, due to very concerning extremist statements attributed to him by local media reports.

Boyd calls equal rights for transgendered students "against the laws of God and nature."

Douglas R. Boyd sits on the Los Angeles County Office Education (LACOE) Board of Education, overseeing more than 800,000 students and teachers across Los Angeles county.

"It is just fundamentally wrong," said Doug Boyd, a lawyer circulating petitions

Apparently, Mr. Boyd is also a figurehead advocating for the repeal of California law AB1266 that will require schools receiving state funds to enforce all students' rights to equality in schools.

Boyd is quoted in local media making disparaging and hurtful comments against transgender students.  Read for yourself here:  http://bit.ly/Boyd_Homophobia

As a public figure, Boyd has an obligation to serve all students and follow the laws of the State of California. Apparently, Boyd is more intent upon being a rogue extremist. Ralph Brown Act? Fair Political Practices Act? Pupil Rights? It appears Boyd doesn't think California state laws apply to him.

Mr. Boyd's deceptive dual faces as both conservative attorney and extremist proponent of hate speech has no place on the LACOE Board of Education. Would anyone tolerate calling an interracial couple, "against the laws of God and nature," in this day and age? In Los Angeles? Of course not.

Rogue extremists should not be allowed on a Board that is not subject to public election. We believe Boyd poses a serious threat to the equal rights of transgender youth in Los Angeles County, and thousands of teachers and students across the state. We believe Boyd should be removed from his role on a major public Board of Education. Do you?

BOYD REPEAT OFFENDER OF POLITICAL REFORM ACT

We have also just discovered that Boyd is considered an "aggravated" repeat offender of campaign finance laws by the Fair Political Practices Commission. As recently as 2010, Boyd was fined for repeated, flagrant and unscrupulous violations that would put any politician to shame. The problem is that Boyd is not a politician. As an appointed member of the LACOE Board of Education, he acts as though he is accountable to no one.
