                           Custom Climbing Day

Exum's "Custom Climbing" is just that - a day of climbing that is customized to the individual's or groups wishes.  This day can be anything from an introductory day that is just pure fun for new climbers, to a day of expert instruction for intermediate to advanced climbers.  The day will take place at the Hidden Falls practice area, one of the most beautiful places in Grand Teton National Park.  Custom Climbing days are one of out most popular activities.  Check out the comments that others have made after their day (Exum's Top Three), and call us to schedule your fantastic day in the mountains.

        Rock Climbing and Day Climbs

The Teton's are home to some of the most iconic day rock climbs or alpine rock climbs in North America. Choose from two of the most popular climbs with easy approaches such as Baxters Pinnacle or the spectacular Guides Wall (check out the Guides Wall Video).  Or, step it up a notch and head into the hills for some of the more difficult day climbs like such classics as Irene's AreteDihedral of HorrorsThe Snaz and Open Book.  Regardless of your choice you will have a great day in the mountains!

               Family and Kid's Climbing

Want to try something new on your next vacation? Rock climbing is a terrific way to involve the entire family in an adventure when you visit the Tetons. And it is surprisingly easy for kids and parents alike.

Exum Mountain Guide's Family Activity programs are about having fun--lots of it. The day focuses on making participants feel comfortable on the rock and having a good time doing so. Plus, there are plenty of opportunities to pick huckleberries, take a dip in a lake, and observe wildlife! No matter what the age, ability or experience level, Exum has a program that will delight your family.

Ski Mountaineering

The steep mountain faces and the 7,000 vertical feet of eminently accessible terrain make the Tetons the nation's most sought-after area for ski-mountaineering.

Whether you are building up to something bigger, like skiing the Grand, or simply looking for a fabulous mountain adventure, skiing or snowboarding one of the Teton's spectacular summits is a truly rewarding experience.

"Apocalypse Couloir" Ski Descent

During the most recent Exum Mountain Guides/Alpine House Backcountry Ski Week, a few of us decided to take on the Apocalypse Couloir in Death Canyon. Armed with some great skiers, 2 ropes, an ice screw, a little rock gear and our ski guiding skills, the 5 of us were on our way. The day started off.................

Featured Peak- The Middle Teton

Sitting just south of the Lower Saddle is one of the most accessible big peaks in the Tetons, The Middle Teton, the most viewed peak in the range by climbers on the Exum Ridge, simply can't be overlooked for its interesting, exciting and downright alpine nature.  The Middle Teton is a great warm up for bigger peaks in the range or is a great objective on its own. The Middle Teton has easy scrambles, alpine test pieces and routes to train you for your next big peak, the Middle Teton is a classic!

All route information in the "Featured Peak" installment is from "A Climbers Guide to the Teton Range", written by Leigh N. Ortenburger and Reynold G. Jackson.  The guide is the most comprehensive guide to climbing in the Tetons. The book is a must have for anyone visiting the range

Southwest Couloir.  II, 3.0.  First ascent July 16, 1927, by H.O., Morris, and Irven Christensen, after climbing the South Teton earlier the same day.  This is the very popular regular route used by most parties and is approached via the south fork of Garnet Canyon.

North Ridge. II, 5.6.  First ascent July 17, 1931, by Robert Underhill and Fritiof Fryxell.  From the Lower Saddle between the Middle Teton and the Grand Teton, Climb toward the base of the north ridge.  Two large pinnacles provide interesting scrambling......

Northwest Ice Couloir.  III, AI3, 5.6.  First ascent June 16, 1961, by Peter Lev and James Greig. The climb varies from a snow route in early season to perhaps the easiest of the classic Teton ice routes during the midseason to late season.  The angle of the couloir approaches 50 degrees near the top.

Middle Teton Glacier.  III, AI2+, 5.4.  First ascent August 4, 1944, by Sterling Hendricks and Paul Bradt.  On the north side of this peak the broad Middle Teton Glacier extends all the way up to the Dike Pinnacle..........this route is recommended as an early-season climb because crampons can be worn all the way to the summit.

CNN.com- 10 Mountains for every kind of climber.

CNN.com has put together a fantastic compilation of 10 of the most worthy peaks on the planet.  The only peak in the United States to make the list is the Grand Teton.

Weekend warriors: Grand Teton, United States.  by Lauren Zumbach, CNNGo.com

From the CNN report.  "One day up, one day down, a lifetime of bragging.

If you're short on time and trekking experience, few peaks make it as quick and easy to get classic scenery and name appeal as Wyoming's Grand Teton.

It's the iconic mountain of the American west, and views of its jagged summit have a "wow factor" belying its relatively short stature that will leave your ignorant friends back home in awe of your newfound climbing chops.

You won't even have to miss much time at the office -- other big-name peaks take a week, at least, to climb, but the Grand Teton's 4,179 meters make it doable in two days (one if you're in superhuman shape and ready to work).

With several flights a day landing in nearby Jackson Hole, it's a packed but feasible long weekend, even if you tack on the two-day introductory course most guiding companies offer before the summit bid. Make it back in time to do a little bragging before your meetings -- and the real world -- intrude again."
