Beach Access Repairs
The Beach Maintenance Crew has been making repairs to various beach accesses. At Aquarius Beach Access #18 the crew has been making plumbing upgrades and started with the preventive maintenance of the structure which includes staining the exposed wood surfaces and applying Elastomeric Coating to the shower areas and weatherproof stain on the rest of the structure. Staff was looking for a product that would waterproof and resurface the old damaged walkovers and we were able to find Superdeck Deck & Dock Elastomeric Coating. This formula fills cracks, locks down splinters, restores, resurfaces and waterproofs all in one product. If you have a chance please stop by and take a look at the improvements. As time and staffing allows we hope to continue these improvements at all other access points.

At Neptune Beach Access #16 the stairs were beginning to show signs of deterioration due to the accumulation of sand and vegetation below the steps which trapped the moisture. Beach maintenance removed the excess sand and vegetation and braced the steps to avoid any accidents in the future.

Dune Planting
Coastal Resources hosted the 2nd planting of the year this past weekend. With the help of volunteers, we planted 10,100 plants and enjoyed a beautiful morning on the beach. Please plan to come out in January for our next planting.

Certification Program
The South Padre Island Fire Department provided a CPR/AED certification program for the South Padre Island Coast Guard this week. The program certified 55 Coast Guard members over a two-day period.

Christmas Toys
The combined efforts of Origins Recovery Center, Hilton Inn employees and the South Padre Island Firefighters Association, has resulted in underprivileged children from across the area receiving toys this Christmas. The Fire Association members will be delivering toys to 15 children from Garriga Elementary School in Port Isabel and 15 children from Island Baptist Church. They also have additional requests from five families in the Laguna Madre area.
