City Hall Closed
South Padre Island City Hall will be closed on Tuesday, November 11 in recognition of Veterans Day. City Hall will reopen on Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at regular business hours.







Veterans Day Celebration
The South Padre Island Parks, Recreation & Beautification Committee invites you to the Veterans Day 2014 Celebration on November 11, 2014 at Hilton Garden Inn at 2 PM. Join South Padre Island Mayor, Robert N. Pinkerton, Jr., in recognizing all Veterans, celebrating the Marine Corps. Birthday, and 3rd Anniversary of the Purple Heart Trail. Come celebrate and enjoy a FREE concert by Leslie Blasing.







Senior Sales Manager
The City of South Padre Island Convention & Visitors Bureau   welcomes Eduardo Figueroa to the sales team! He brings over 35 years of international hotel industry experience to South Padre Island. Working his way from front desk clerk to sales director and even the purchasing manager for several hotels, Figueroa knows the hospitality industry inside and out.

Since graduating from the Mexican School of Hotel Management in 1978 and becoming the general manager of several properties, he has excelled at group sales. In 1995, he began as a groups and convention sales manager at Hotel Ixtapa in Mexico City. In 2005, he  became the director of convention sales at the Brownsville Convention & Visitors Bureau eventually being promoted to vice president of marketing and sales.

Figueroa comes to the City of South Padre Island from the City of Harlingen Convention & Visitors Bureau where he was the executive director.







Court Judge
At the November 5, 2014 regular meeting, City Council appointed Edmund Cyganiewicz as the new Presiding Municipal Court Judge for the City to replace retired Judge David Colwell.





RGV Birding Festival
The 21st annual RGV Birding Festival kicked off last week. A bus full of people came by the South Padre Island Convention Centre to check out our world-class bird viewing.







Journey Into Space
The CVB hosted a reception "Journey Into Space" for Point Isabel students. A moon rock from the Apollo 11 mission was on display. The artist Sebasti�n and several guest speakers from NASA, Jacobs, & UTB addressed the group of about 200 students.







WAVE Ridership
Ridership for The WAVE for the month of October is 46,096 which is down by 1,155 riders from October of 2013. The monthly total hours The WAVE buses operated for October is 1,788. The monthly total miles The WAVE buses traveled is 31,885.





Metro Connect
Ridership for the Metro Connect Blue Line for the month of October is 4,633, which is down by 193 riders from September. The monthly total hours the MC Blue Line buses operated for October is 496. The monthly total miles the MC Blue Line buses traveled is 14,762.





Street Improvements
The project continues to move forward with the paving from Constellation to Morningside completed. Sidewalk, curb & gutter completed from Constellation to Cora Lee. Striping and placement of brick pavers will follow. Sidewalks and paving from north of Morningside to the end of Gulf Blvd will continue this week.







Inlet Repair
City Council approved the low bid and budget amendment in the amount of $10,851 to Luis Paredes at the November 5th City Council meeting. The Public Works staff will meet with the contractor next week to coordinate the project.

City Council approved the low bid and budget amendment in the amount of $6,860 to F&D Hauling at the November 5th City Council meeting. The Public Works staff will meet with the contractor next week to coordinate the project.





Ground Breaking Ceremony
The City of South Padre Island Transit Department, City Council, and City Leadership Team are proud to announce the groundbreaking ceremony for Phase I of a new multimodal facility here on South Padre Island.

Phase I will feature a park-&-ride site, taxi circulation, a pedestrian sidewalk, bus entrance/exit, circulation, berths and a bus transfer area.

South Padre Island welcomes this new facility and invites the public to attend the groundbreaking ceremony being held at the site in the "Location Map". Thursday, November 13, 2014 at 2:00 PM.







Blood Drive 
The City of  South Padre Island invites the public to its annual Blood Drive on Friday, November 14 from 11 AM to 4 PM at City Hall Board Room.







Recycle Land 2014
The Keep South Padre Island Beautiful Committee and the Environmental Health Services Department invites everyone to bring their recyclables to RECYCLE LAND 2014 on Saturday, November 15, 2014 from 9 AM to 12 PM at Water Tower Park.

Recycling
Recyclable items can be taken to Old City Hall every Saturday from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM.

Items that can be recycled are:
  • Newspaper
  • Cardboard
  • Office Paper
  • Aluminum
  • Tin
  • Plastic
To offer a better recycling service please:
  • Compact, crush or break down plastic bottles, cardboard boxes, aluminum cans or any other items that may be reduced in size. This helps us use the most amount of space in the bins.
  • Remove any food, liquid, metal fasteners, adhesive materials or other items that may contaminate the whole load.






Animal Control
Lost or found an animal on the Island? The South Padre Island's Animal Control is working together with the Friends of Animals Rescue Group. Their foster-based recovery center helps reunite lost and found pets with their families. Friends of Animal Rescue will make every effort to reunite lost animals with their families. Animals that are not reunited will be vetted by Friends of Animal Rescue and placed with new families. Lost or found a pet please call:

Incentive Policy
The South Padre Island Economic Development Corporation and the City of South Padre Island have approved an incentive policy in order to assist qualified new and existing businesses and to benefit the economic climate on the Island. Businesses can apply for property tax abatements as well as sales tax abatements for improvements that will contribute to the economy of South Padre Island. The City and the EDC will evaluate the applications to determine if they meet the established criteria for the programs. Kitty Cats



Friends of Animal Rescue has many kittens in need of new homes. All of them have been spayed or neutered and are current on all their vaccinations. Please stop by and say hello. We have all colors and ages. We also want to invite you to our Animal House Fundraiser "Raise the Ruff" at Laguna Bob's Saturday, November 8, 2014. Doors open at 6 pm.
