Grand Marshal
The City of South Padre Island will have their annual Holiday Parade on December 12, 2014. It will run from Mars to Red Snapper on Padre Boulevard starting at 6:00 PM. This year Gary Meschi will act as Grand Marshal for the parade. Meschi's commitment to invest his resources in the South Padre and Port Isabel area and to provide much needed goods and grocery services has been instrumental
to our area's ability to attract residents, visitors and other businesses  during the years of early development as a tourism destination. Meschi's continued presence as the only grocery store on South   Padre Island provides shoppers with convenience, has a significant
economic impact for South Padre, and the store serves  as  the  heart of our city for island visitors and residents. Meschi says, in his  opinion, "the two most significant events impacting the business  economy of the Lower Rio Grande Valley and his business were the construction of the Queen Isabella Causeway and the arrival of  Southwest Airlines in Harlingen".

Lane Closures
The City of South Padre Island will have their annual Holiday Parade on December 12, 2014. It will take place on the section of Padre Boulevard from Mars to Red Snapper starting at 6:00 PM and ending at approximately 10 PM.

Intersecting streets will be barricaded to prevent cross traffic in that section. West Red Snapper will be closed  to vehicle traffic, allowing   only bus parking for parade participants.

West Red Snapper will be closed to vehicle traffic, allowing only bus
parking for parade South bound and north bound traffic on Padre Boulevard (HWY  100) will detour east to Gulf Boulevard and west to Laguna Boulevard.

The City of South Padre Island Coastal Resources and Parks and   Recreation Division will host a dune planting at Neptune Beach Access  #16 on the 4400  block of Gulf Boulevard at 9 am on Saturday, December 13, 2014 starting at 9 AM.

State Health Services
Texas Department of State Health Services had their first event in the Centre last week. With their theme being binational tuberculosis and communicable diseases, with their 2 day conference of 140 plus attendees where they discussed border opportunities and challenges. They also had simultaneous translation during their meetings. What a great addition!

New Client
John Hall's Alaska, a tour and cruise provider, is another new client to the Centre, they had their first meeting last week and return in January with another 40 plus attendees.

Street Improvements
Project is going well, some delays due to the Thanksgiving Holiday and some inclement weather. The contractor has poured all of the concrete pads for the brick paved crosswalks and is currently installing the brick pavers. The concrete driveways have all been poured, along with curb and valley gutters. The contractor is planning to overlay Gulf Boulevard from Morningside to Sunset this week along with the asphalt driveways and parking areas on the west side of Gulf.

Sunset Street Repairs
The contractor poured the final north section of concrete and opened both lanes to traffic last week. This repair is a great improvement and eliminates the need for Public Works having to repair it after rain events.

Padre Boulevard Sidewalk
The contractor was finally able to pour and complete the second section of the sidewalk at the 6300 Block of Padre Boulevard. The project had been delayed due to rain and poor drainage in that area.
