Coastal Resources hired a full-time beach maintenance foreman. Joe Vela has been with the City for 25 years and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the department.

Multimodal Project
The Transit Department would like to thank everyone who came out to support the Multimodal Project and participate in the Phase I groundbreaking last week. The City of South Padre Island officials and Transit Department were joined by representatives from the Texas Department of Transportation, Congressman Vela's office, City of Port Isabel, Gignac & Associates, SpawGlass Contractors, area transit directors and several members of the general public.

Street Improvements
Not much work was done last week due to the inclement weather. A construction meeting is scheduled for this Thursday, November 20, 2014 at 2:00 pm with the project engineer, G&T Paving staff and the Public Works Staff.

Trash Barrels
If you took a walk on the beach last week you may have noticed tumbling barrels blowing in the wind due to the rough winds this week. Crews are working on adding weights to the trash barrels to avoid the tumbling barrels during future storms.

Holiday Decorations
The crews began bringing the Christmas trees from storage this week and are checking the lights and electrical connections. They will be installing them next week along with banners and other decorations.

BULLETIN BOARD
Recycling
Recyclable items can be taken to Old City Hall every Saturday from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM.

Items that can be recycled are:
  • Newspaper
  • Cardboard
  • Office Paper
  • Aluminum
  • Tin
  • Plastic
To offer a better recycling service please:
  • Compact, crush or break down plastic bottles, cardboard boxes, aluminum cans or any other items that may be reduced in size. This helps us use the most amount of space in the bins.
