A Message from the Admission Director

Greetings Frederica Families,

January kicks off an exciting time in the Admission Office at Frederica Academy. We are busy preparing for the upcoming admission season, and with it comes the wonderful opportunity to share and showcase all of the exceptional students and unique offerings that make Frederica Academy such a special place.

Before we roll out the green carpet for our guests, we must first roll up our sleeves at our Third Annual Hands on Frederica Day to be held Saturday, February 3, 2018. Students, parents, trustees, faculty, and staff will gather to primp and polish our beautiful campus to ensure it shines during Open House week. We invite you and your family to join us in participating in this fun, hands-on event to enhance our campus. Please click HERE to sign up to volunteer. Details are included on the sign-up link.

Frederica Academy will open its doors February 5th-9th to prospective families interested in learning about its pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade student-centered approach to integrated curriculum and experiential learning. We will spotlight a different division with engaging classroom visits, interactive teacher introductions, campus tours, special events and more during each day of Open House.

We are seeking enthusiastic parent and student volunteers to welcome guests, conduct tours, and share their own personal Frederica story.  If you wish you to participate in this eventful week, please click HERE to email me. Additionally, I welcome you to share this invitation with friends and neighbors interested in learning more about Frederica Academy.

Although we designate one week as Open House week during admission season, we remind ourselves and others that we are open throughout the year to share our campus with families wanting to learn more about Frederica Academy. Please contact me to refer a family that would be a good fit for Frederica but would prefer to visit us before or after Open House week.

We are blessed by your investment in Frederica Academy and your willingness to share your FA story with others seeking a premier college preparatory experience for their children. Research shows that parents are the best marketers for an independent school. To that end, thank you for your continued support and friendship.

Warmest regards,

Admission Director

Private School 529 Savings Plans

One of the provisions of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 signed into law by the President in December expands the utilization of 529 savings plans. Starting in 2018, qualified educational expenses for 529 plans will include up to $10,000 a year in tuition and expenses for primary and secondary school (public, private, or religious). Previously, you could only use 529 savings plans towards college expenses.

Some states also offer income tax deductions for 529 plan contributions. Georgia is currently one of those states; however, the deduction is limited.  Please click HERE for more information about the Georgia Path2College 529 plan.

Click HERE to read an article which appeared in The New York Times about this new tax law.

Please consult with your tax professional about how it may directly benefit you and your family.

2018 FA Open House - February 5-9

"When we attended Frederica's Open House many years ago, we instantly felt a sense of family and belonging. Diverse offerings and unique opportunities were visible at every grade level. Today, we remain impressed with Frederica's commitment to providing a safe and nurturing learning environment while preparing students to become critical thinkers and passionate lifelong learners. As parents of children who each have distinct learning styles, we especially appreciate the individualized approach to students' educational needs at Frederica Academy. Through positive partnerships among students, families, and the school, Frederica fosters a community of shared values and well-rounded students who are prepared for college and beyond through the development of mind, body, and spirit. We are so grateful that we found the right educational fit for our family."

- Dana and Denny Carter with Hudson (Class of 2029), Camille (Class of 2030), and Hayes (Class of 2025)

We invite you to share our Open House information with family, friends, and neighbors who might be interested in learning more about Frederica Academy.

Fourth Grade Weather Projects

Part of learning about weather is learning about the tools we use to measure weather. Last week, fourth graders were put into small groups and given directions plus a bin of materials to build their tools. They created their own anemometer, rain gauge, wind vane, and barometer. With the rainy day, they ran right outside to test the new equipment!

Fourth Grade Harvest

The Fourth Grade garden plot survived the ice storm! Students pulled the first carrot and were thrilled by what they discovered. One student remarked, "I've never seen a carrot born before."
