A Message from President O'Quinn
|
Dear Frederica Academy Family,
On behalf of the Upper School Student Council officers, I am thrilled to share with you our excitement for the 2017-2018 school year and our plans for this year's Homecoming celebration.
We had an awesome time at our Space Jam themed Upper School Homecoming Dance last night which kicked off our Homecoming festivities.
Throughout the week, students in all grades will participate in different themed dress-up days. The themes for each day are listed in a separate section of today's email as well as other information about all of the activities which will take place each day.
We've added a couple new traditions this year. All Upper School students will gather on campus on Wednesday night for a Cook-Out and Pizza Party sponsored by the Booster Club. We will then separate into each of our classes to work on class banners, lip sync performances, and floats. The floats will be featured in what we hope will become a new fun tradition at FA ... a Homecoming Parade which will take place on Friday at 2:30 p.m. The entire school will gather to watch the parade pass in front of the main Administration Building before it makes the turn around the large practice field near the front gates of the campus. Parents are encouraged to be a part of this new tradition; however, make plans to be on campus before 2:15 p.m. since the campus will be closed to vehicular traffic before the parade starts at 2:30 p.m. The pep rally will be in the gym following the parade. The fun will continue later that day with the Football tailgate party and the Homecoming game and halftime ceremony.
We are so proud of our Middle School students for using Homecoming to raise awareness about childhood cancer and to raise funds to support children in our community who are currently battling cancer. We applaud the Middle School Student Council officers for organizing this year's "Gold Ribbon Week" during Homecoming.
Our youngest students will not be left out of the fun. We look forward to seeing them dressed in their silly socks, clever pajamas, favorite jerseys, crazy hats, and FA spirit wear this week!
Although Homecoming only lasts a few days, we know the spirit created this week will continue with us throughout this year. We are all so blessed to be a part of such an amazing school. As members of the Class of 2018, we are especially grateful to be a part of the largest class in the school's history. As graduating seniors, we are all committed to making this the best year ever!
Go FA Knights!
Sincerely,
Piper O'Quinn
Upper School Student Council President
2017-2018 Upper School Student Council Officers (L-R): Constance Sullivan, Senior Representative; Piper O'Quinn, President; George Poulakis, Vice President: Curran Squire, Secretary; and Emily Harrison, Treasurer.

Dear Frederica Academy Family,
My name is Kristen Moore, and I am the Box Tops for Educationâ„¢ Coordinator for Frederica Academy. Box Tops for Educationâ„¢ is a school earnings program that helps schools earn cash to buy the things they need.
Box Tops are each worth 10¢ for schools and are found on hundreds of products. When students, families, schools and communities work together to collect Box Tops, the money adds up fast. Since our enrollment in 2013, Frederica Academy has earned $8,324.58, which has been used to fund projects such as the Lower School Garden, The MakerSpace, ongoing professional development for our fabulous faculty as well as many other small projects as needed. We can earn even more cash this school year with your help. Our goal this year is $1000. Here are a few ways you can help us reach that goal:
- Place a Box Tops collection bin in front of your business. Your employees and patrons will identify your business as a Box Tops drop-off location and a main supporter of our school.
- Donate products that we can use as contest prizes. We hold collection contests throughout the year and prizes really motivate parents and students to participate.
To learn more about the Box Tops for Educationâ„¢ program and see a list of participating products, visit BTFE.com or click HERE to watch an informational video on YouTube. Click HERE to see a list of eligible consumer products and HERE to access and download a collection worksheet.
Collection boxes will be located in the Front Office, Benefield Hall (outside Mrs. Lee's office), and the Corn Hall Reception area. The FA collection deadline is October 27.
Thank you in advance for your support!
Sincerely,

The Brunswick News regarding author Lauren Wolk's visit to Frederica Academy last week.
It was a wonderful day with such an interesting and accomplished artist, writer, and teacher.
Ms. Wolk spent lots of time with our students talking about her book, but she shared so much more than simply insight on her novel. She talked a great deal about her experiences growing up and the stories she collected throughout her life. She told our middle schoolers the value of all of their experiences--both the good ones and the bad--and to remember them. She emphasized the power of their individual voices, even now as middle schoolers, relating them to a tsunami that begins with one drop of water and becomes something so much larger when it joins with others. Ms. Wolk was so impressed with our students and their thoughtful questions and connections.

Pre-Kindergarten Mystery Reader
|
Laura Brown was the Mystery Reader in Pre-K last week. Joe was very proud of his mother's performance.
|
Two Fourth Graders, Elizabeth Temple and Amelia McGlaughin, earned the privilege to read a story to the Pre-Kindergarten class by reading ten hours independently at home. Well done, Elizabeth and Amelia!

2017-2018 Master Calendar Updates |
To offset some of the school days lost to Hurricane Irma, we've made the following adjustments to the 2017-2018 Master Calendar. Click
HERE to access and download the REVISED 2017-2018 Master Calendar.
- Monday, October 9 - School will be in session on Columbus Day.
- Wednesday, December 20 - School will be in session on Wednesday, December 20. It will be a half day for all divisions. Lower School will adjourn following the traditional Giving Tree program. It will be the last day of exams for Middle School and Upper School students. Friday, December 15, will be the last exam review day and exams will take place on December 18, 19, and 20. Thursday, December 21, will be a Teacher Work Day.
- Wednesday, January 3 - The Second Semester will start on Wednesday, January 3, instead of Thursday, January 4. All students and teachers will return on January 3.
- Friday, February 16 - School will be in session on Friday, February 16. We will observe Presidents' Day as a school holiday on Monday, February 19.
We've made some additional calendar adjustments to optimize classroom learning and student assessments. For example:
- Thursday, October 19 - We will offer evening sign-ups for Middle School and Upper School parents as an alternative option to parent-teacher conferences taking place on Friday, October 20.
- Friday, October 20 - Lower School and Middle School students will not attend school on Friday, October 20, in order for teachers to participate in parent-teacher conferences. Upper School students will be in session until noon on Friday, October 20. Students in Grades 9-11 will take the Pre-ACT and students in Grade 12 will attend the Senior Health Seminar.
