A Message from the Admission Office

Dear Frederica Families,

So much of what happens at Frederica Academy would not be possible without the teamwork and partnership that exists between our dedicated parents, students, faculty, and staff. And this was never more evident than at our Third Annual Hands on Frederica Day yesterday. What began three years ago as an event to tidy our campus before Open House week, has now become a day of inspiration, teamwork, camaraderie, and, most of all, appreciation and love for this school that we hold so dear. Thank you to each of you who polished, painted, hauled, raked, scrubbed, planted, and primped. Our campus shines much brighter today because of your help and your affection for Frederica Academy.

We now stand ready to open our doors to guests from near and far who wish to learn more about Frederica Academy's spectacular college-preparatory program at this week's Open House. I encourage you to attend, whether as a parent volunteer, a student ambassador, or perhaps even as a participant curious of what lies ahead for your child as he or she prepares to progress to a new division or grade above. Guests will witness and experience a diverse sampling of key differentiators that set Frederica Academy apart. Engaging programming will include informational sessions with faculty and administrators, student testimonies, ambassador tours, classroom observations, and more.

Guests of Open House will also have the opportunity to watch Frederica Academy's engaging new recruitment video. But first, we are debuting it with you! Please continuing reading this email to view this poignant story of Frederica Academy as told by our remarkable students, teachers, and administrators.

With this new marketing tool available, I hope you will take the opportunity to share it with family, friends, and neighbors who may be interested in learning more about Frederica Academy. The school wishes to encourage and reward our families who go above and beyond to promote the school; therefore, we have created a New Knight Referral Program which provides qualifying families with a tuition credit for referrals who are admitted and enroll in the 2018-2019 school year. Please continue reading below to learn more!

Thank you, again, for your ongoing support of our school. You and your family are a blessing to Frederica Academy.

Fondly,

Director of Admission

Model UN Students Compete at GSU

The Frederica Academy Model United Nations (UN) Team returned to campus on Saturday afternoon after competing at the 47th Annual Georgia Southern University High School Model UN Conference. Twenty Frederica Academy students traveled to Statesboro early Thursday morning for two-and-a-half full days of debate and geopolitical problem solving.

More than 450 delegates from 21 schools throughout Georgia, South Carolina, and Florida wrote resolutions, asked points of information, and gained speaking time on the floor of the General Assembly and in committees as they represented the nations of Ecuador, Guinea-Bissau, Latvia, Malawi, the Maldives, Nepal, the Republic of Congo, and the United Kingdom.  Despite an exhausting schedule, the Frederica crew remained focused on solving the world's problems while meeting, interacting, and forging diplomatic relationships with students from other participating schools.

Special recognitions were awarded to: Africa Union ( AU) Honorable Mention - Mackenzie Morgan (Republic of Congo); UN Security Council Honorable Mention - Alastair Campbell (United Kingdom); and the UN General Assembly Delegation Honorable Mention - Ryan McHugh and Lauren Jobe (Latvia).

Thank You, Hands on Frederica Day Volunteers!

We express our gratitude to the students, parents, trustees, teachers, coaches, administrators, and staff members who shared their time, muscles, expertise, and love for our school by volunteering for Hands on Frederica on Saturday. Together, the over one-hundred volunteers spread mulch, cleaned walls and windows, planted trees, painted signposts, reinvigorated the Middle School halls, and much more.  Many areas of campus now have a fresh, new look as we continue into the second semester.

Special thanks to the FA Booster Club members who arrived early and stayed late to provide refreshments for volunteers and to the Frederica Academy Parent Association for contributing funds to help support projects.  We also express appreciation to Southeast Nursery for its donation of plant materials, notably the four Live Oak trees that will grace our campus for years to come!

Guess Who Won the 2018 FA Souper Bowl?

Congratulations Philadelphia Eagles fans on  leading
your  team to the 2018 FA Souper Bowl Championship!

Frederica Academy sponsored its annual Souper Bowl Food Collection Drive  in celebration of Super Bowl 52. Boxes for the Eagles  and the  New England Patriots were stationed on campus last week. Students and teachers voted for their favorite team by donating canned food items.  All of the collected items will be donated to Sparrow's Nest, a local food bank.

Upper School Geometry Parallelograms

Students in Mrs. Graham's Geometry classes made parallelograms so they could discover their properties. Then they learned a cheer to help them quickly recall the information learned over this concept. It was a fun way to learn something new. If you're on campus and you see a Geometry student doing a math cheer, ask them to teach you what they learned about parallelograms.

Upper School Algebra II "Speed Dating"

Speed dating in Algebra II was a lot of fun last week! Students had about two minutes to find a partner, work each other's logarithmic equation, and then check their answers. Students were able to teach each other, work together, and get out of their seat while reviewing for their upcoming test.

Fourth Grade Weather Unit

Fourth Grade students completed their weather unit by creating their own weather reports with the help of Mrs. Barrow and a green screen.

Third Grade Art Class SpaceScapes

Third Graders created beautiful SpaceScapes in Art class this week using oil pastel.

Kindergarten Special Guest Reader

Kindergarten enjoyed having Henry Dorminy's mom, Mrs. Caroline Dorminy, as its Guest Reader last week. Henry chose the book for his mom to read to the class, "Branches of The Military." The students loved the book, and were so into learning about the military! Thank you, Mrs. Dorminy, for coming!

Pre-Kindergarten Mystery Reader

Sommer Whitlow was this week's Pre-K Mystery Reader. Mrs. Whitlow is the mother of Wylkes Whitlow (and Wylder in Kindergarten and Wyatt in 6th Grade).  She read the New York Times bestseller Dragons Love Tacos by Adam Rubin.
