Back-to-School Clothing Drive - SUMMER

This summer, while you are cleaning out the clothes your children have outgrown (again), please consider bagging them and putting them aside for Frederica Academy's Back-to-School Clothing Drive. Bookbags, shoes, and belts are always in high demand. This drive is held in August and provides clothing to several children's service organizations in our area.  We take items for all ages and sizes.

Last year, we provided clothing to Safe Harbor, Communities in Schools, and Morningstar. The staff at Safe Harbor report that the clothes they get from this drive are of high quality, and their residents wear them with confidence. The drive is coordinated by Frederica's Community Service Club and helps to kick off a great year of giving back!

Thanks for helping us have another super successful clothing drive.  More details will follow in future emails, but feel free to contact Catherine Squire at [email protected] if any immediate questions arise.

Golden Isles Youth Orchestra Master Class

Georgia Southern students Ben Cork (violinist) and William Page (cellist) gave a master class to Miss Shelton's Fourth Grade violin class on Thursday. Students were able to see and hear them play famous classical pieces by Mozart and Bach as well hear the violin played like a fiddle. Students also heard Frederica Upper School students Evyn Lundy and Zhane Waye play a beautiful duet accompanied by Mr. Smith on the piano. After these performances, the Fourth Grade students were able to play Auld Lang Syne, a song they have been working on with Ben and William, which was a special treat. Thank you to the Golden Isles Youth Orchestra (GIYO) for making this wonderful experience possible!

Fifth Grade Hall of Presidents Wax Museum

Click HERE to see more photos.

The Fifth Grade hosted the Hall of Presidents Wax Museum this week. Each student independently researched an assigned United States President and wrote a biographical speech about him. The speeches were memorized, the costumes gathered and Fifth G rade was ready to shine. With Hamilton Hall serving as the Presidential Portrait Gallery, family and friends gathered to share in the fun.

Second Grade Informational Writing Projects

Second Grade students have been busy working on an informational writing project. Students worked on writing well-crafted introduction and closing paragraphs while carefully organizing each paragraph. Way to go second grade writers!

Kindergarten Special Reader:  Mrs. Ackerman

Our last special reader for the year was someone the children know well and love dearly! Mollie Temples asked our very own Mrs. Ackerman to bless our class with a couple of books! Although the children LOVED learning about the sea and sailing adventures in Salty Dog, they were just as thrilled to spend this time with Mrs. Ackerman! It continues to ALWAYS be a great day in Kindergarten at FA!

Pre-Kindergarten End-of-Year Program

Rising Seventh Grade Immunizations (Action Required)

Georgia state law stipulates that seventh graders are issued a new immunization certificate (GA form 3231) before the first day of school. This review ensures that each seventh grader has all the required school immunizations, including tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis, and meningococcal vaccines.

Please call your pediatrician or the Health Department soon.  They will determine what vaccines are required, make an appointment if needed, and issue a new form 3231. This should be done before August 15, 2018.

Please click HERE to email Nurse Byers should you have questions.

PPE Screenings Grades 5-11 (Action Required)

All new and returning students in Grade 5-11 must have an annual pre-participation physical evaluation (PPE) screening.  The PPE screening can be performed  by your family physician or at an immediate or urgent care center.  There is no need to wait for a physician appointment, as most immediate care centers will provide the exam.  The FA form packet must be used to document the completed exam. Please click HERE for forms.  The parent completes and signs pages 1 through 5, including page 5 and the medical professional completes and signs pages 6 and 7.  Upon completion, please return to school to the attention of the school nurse, no later than May 30.  Please understand that your student will not be allowed to attend Carpe Vitam, any athletic practice, camp, scrimmage, game, or other physical activity, etc. without a 2018-2019 PPE on file with the school nurse. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
